Some of you might remember my guinea pig Wilbur...I got him a few months ago with an abcessed eye. He is almost all grown up now, and doing great He likes scritches in his cage but he hates to be out of it, and his cage is pretty large (40x36x24) so he spends most of his time in there. I figure he must be bored and lonely and I have read that they should be kept with other piggies, so he is getting a friend.

We are meeting a lady from a guinea pig rescue with 3 male brothers his age (they have BLUE eyes! ) and hopefully bring home a new friend this weekend. The piggies have been seen by the exotics vet at work so I know we wont be sharing any germs

Anyway just wondering from you guinea pig people if you have any tips or advice on what I should expect? I have never had a guinea pig and really wasnt even planning on getting this one, so this is a shot in the dark...

We bred guinea pigs for a number of years (they have the cutest babies! ). We also pet-sat guinea pigs and have had lots of experience with them. From our experiences our male didn't get along with other males, not sure if it was just a male thing or if it was the fact that he was protecting his females? I wouldn't put Wilbur and the new pig together right away, it would probably be best to have their cages side by side so they can get used to each others scents. IF they start to do a purring kind of dance, then they are trying to establish their dominance and that could lead to fighting. We have known people who have bought our babies and two male brothers have lived together happily, it might be a little different if they aren't related... or it could work out fine. JMO.

I think I still have most of the really functional ones! I have a nasty one on my thumb from monday that is still killing me, but she's actually doing pretty good...she suddenly decided that she liked applesauce, so I just mix her meds with that and down it goes! She is feeling better too, I can tell...she is back to being a pain in my arse like usual
