Full Version: Question About Qp Behavior New To Me.

When I had Quackers about a year ago he would preen my hair. I was told this was a sign of affection. Wicket on the other hand has never preened my hair but will bite my hair until she breaks it off. I am wondering if this means she does not like me all that much. Wicket would rather not have me hold her. I would like to know what this could mean even if it means she may never bond to me. blink.gif

She was hand fed and after weaning, left alone until I bought her. She was 6 to 7 months when she came to live with me. I have had her sine the end of January or first of February.

I am worried she will never really bond to me and my family. I have her in the same room with the parakeets and doves. She loves to be near the other birds.

I do take her in the living room so I can have some one-on-one time and she is starting to stay on me a bit more then before. (I went to Montana from the 1st to the 12th of June and boarded her at the pet store I bought her from.)

It sounds to me like you are doing everything right and I am pretty sure wicket does like you. Quakers have a very non subtle way about letting ppl know when they dont like them and it hurts.

I have found that quakers personalitys can be quite different from one another so that one may really love to be held and cuddled and another prefers to be near a person just not on them.

I think basically as I have said before you are doing it all right, which you already know because you have bird experience. Sometimes with patience and keep trying to handle to bird it pays off and he will love to be held etc.

In re to the preening my quaker also thinks I need a hair cut I have to keep him away from my hair tho because its so long and I am afraid he will end up getting stuck and cause himself injury and I am not really sure eating hair is a good part of a quakers diet anyways.

Good luck with your fid

Hello,

My Qp I have noticed doesn't like to be touched or played with a certain times of the day. He is still very used to the schedule from the breeder that I got him from. So that might be one reason. Just keep working with him. Good luck!
