So my rat,Melody, had 15 babies last night.. i decided to breed her because my uncle wanted to start raising rats again and since the most babies my rats have ever had was 5 or 6, i didnt think that much of it. Until this morning when I woke up and went to go check on her, at first I saw 4 and that was fine until I picked her up and started counting lol..15!! i have decided she wasnt allowed to ever get pregnant again..lol anyway just had to share...

With rats - breeding season seems to last all year round. The pet store I worked at had a 50 gallon tank with 4 litters in it at any given time. Creepy little critters the babies are.
From my understanding the males eat the babies..and only if they're not their own. In any case, let's hope you miscounted tongue.gif

well the babies are doing well..got their first taste of real food today, so cute..but i dont know if melody will make it very much longer. I think she might have pneumonia or something like that. Her nose is covered in blood and shes lost alot of weight and shes a very active rat usually and now if i pick her up she just lays there sad.gif does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong with her or if she could get the babies sick..
