Soooooooo Lucy is doing wonderfully she says "up up" and makes kissy noises. She's more and more vocal even though half the time I don't know what she's saying. She loves me and my sisters. She's a doll. Perfect lil bird.

This morning. I took my dogs outside and Toby, was REALLY pulling to get to the street. I mean he was going NUTS. I look. and there's this lil QP marching up and down the street. I go to her and she comes right up on my hand. So she's obviously someone's pet. But she looks bad. I don't know how long she's been free. She's super skinny. And a lot of her feathers are missing. My heart melts and I bring the little thing inside and put her in Lucy's lil travel cage. I try to give her some pellets but she wants none of that. Luckily I have some seed that I give Lucy as a treat every now and then and I give her some and she goes crazy and doesn't stop eating for like 10 minutes straight. She's currently sitting on the traveling cage looking quite content. She scares easily and get a little defensive if you go to pet her but she'll step up and she's got a quiet little personality.
If anyone lost a QP in the Chicago area, let me know. She has a home here until someone claims her. And if no one does.. well.... I guess it seems like I have to get another cage. I'm going to get a smaller cheap one for the time being for her to be comfy in for now...

Lucy is sooo interested altho I know better than to introduce them. I know QP's like to be by themselves so even if no one claims this lil one and I decide to keep her, I'll have to get her her checked out by the vet and get her her own cage.

SOOO if you know of someone who lost a QP. Let me know. She seems like a good little bird.
Her feathers looks like a mess though. Besides a good bath, what do you guys recommend I do?

Glad to hear Lucy is doing so well! smile.gif

I would recommend calling up some local vets and shelters to see if anyone has reported one missing. Put an ad in the paper etc. because if she is that friendly than she most likely has a home and they are probably worried sick about her. There are a few websites that also have listing for lost parrots. (I can't remember them, you could google them or someone else will be around shortly.) I would also be really careful about quarentine since she has been out with wild birds etc. keep her in a separate room and always wash before handling Lucy.

Good luck and hopefully you can find her parronts! smile.gif

Oh her parronts must be worried sick about her!

Check petfinders, parrot911 and your local Craigslist. Watch the lost and found in the paper, check with local vets, check local pet store bulletin boards. People post about lost pets in all those places.

Poor baby must have been scared to death being out and about without her people. sad.gif So glad you found her. I'm sure she was hungry! Try her with all the good stuff for Qs, she may not know what pellets are, maybe her parronts didn't have her on a pellet diet yet. But I would put them in with the other things you feed her, maybe she'll pick up on them.

Good luck finding her parronts, but if not, good luck with the new baby!! smile.gif

Poor little baby...Good advise has been given and especially the quarantining...if you hold her at all make sure you change your clothes after so you don't pass anything along to Lucy. And even if you don't hold the new one just handling food dishes and water dishes and changing papers you need to make sure you've thoroughly washed after having done so.

you might want to give her a vet check up, just to make sure.just take precautions to keep lucy safe.kudos for finding her, she couldn't have survived outside forever! good luck!

Hey there.....

I see you live in Burbank. I live in the Chgo. (north side). Well consider this. Are you sure it's not one that got lost from his flock. I know originally these Quakers settled here in the city...around the U of Chgo, in the Hyde Park area, and then, they kept moving further west. Burbank is just a bit south, and further west. (much further) However it is not that far that a bird with wings cannot easily get too. You just migh have one of those wild ones. Does he seem really tame? I suppose if he was a wild Q he would not have come to you so easily......

Oh well, just thinking. Don't forget...somewhere along the line, get him to an avian vet. There is one in Tinley Park I believe.

Is he banded at all?

Yea at first I thought it was a wild one too but you can tell it's wings were once clipped. And it knows the command step up. At first thought that was my reaction too!! We see the wild ones down here every now and then!!

It's doing well now. He's curled up in his wing and sleeping. Poor thing has probably been too stressed out outside to get a proper night's rest. I know Lucy needs her 10-12 hours or she's the bride of frankenstein, so i can imagine how bad this lil bird feels. I'm going to let it sleep and eat and then get it into a little bath. My boyfriend is coming over later in the day and we're going to get a temporary cage for it. Something big enough so it'll be comfy but nothing fancy just yet.
Thanks for all the advice. I was so impressed by my little dog. He was so excited. He's terrified of Lucy but you could see the wheels turning in his lil fluffy head "heeyyyy momma's gotta birdie like that!!" I wonder if he tought it was Lucy herself. lol. ohh animals smile.gif

Again, thanks guys!

Wow, lucky baby to have found you. It's possible that she/he flew away from home by accident but it's also possible that someone opened the door and let it go, happens all the time mad.gif

I'd let her settle in a day or two before offering a bath and try offering some veggies etc to see if she's interested. The best way to improve the feather condition is through a long term plan of improved diet

Lucy knew pellets were the way to go from the start! Thank you awesome breeder smile.gif

How do I introduce/convert to pellets?
Also, there seems to be NO interest in people food. I know Lucy's picky too but this lil birdie wants none of it!

You can just put a dish of pellets in by the bird's seed and see if he will eat it. As for converting, this is a no no until he's been with you for at least a month. Hopefully, his owners will have been in contact with you by then though.

unsure.gif I'm glad that your dog lead you to this poor little bird, and I hope his/her owners can be found, but if not I reakon she/he has found a great home, best of luck. wink.gif
