I'm trying to do as much research before I bring my first quaker home. wacko.gif We already have him picked out, but he's still being handfed. smile.gif His name's Benvolio. wub.gif

I'm sure others will be along, but I'd say you'd probably want to have his cage ready before bringing him home... and give him plenty of time to adjust....

Just my opinion, but maybe a 'well bird' check up with your avian vet..

Yep, I agree. Make sure his cage is set up prior to bringing him home. I suggest to bring him home in the early part of the day. This way it gives him a bit of time to adjust before going to bed. Ask what type of food (seed/pellet) he is being weaned onto and make sure to have at least a month supply of that. You want to make sure it is the exact same brand he is currently eating, so he doesn't get stressed out through diet changes.

Also, definitely book an appointment with an avian vet to have him checked out. Most breeders/pet stores give a health guarantee (and it varies from place to place) so try and get that check-up done before the guarantee expires.

In the meantime, read through the messages on the forum and check out the entire website too. Lots of great information on here!

If you haven't already I would look into purchasing the book "A Guide To Quaker Parrots" by Mattie Sue Athon...Lots of great info in that book, And just stay close here and read as many different threads as you can there's Great info here or if you have questions, Just ask...I'm sure someone will come along with an answer or two or three wink.gif
