Sooo my boyfriend, who is an amazing and caring person, decided we need to get this little bird a home of its own. So he went out and got it a new (but small.. I told him this is just a TEMPORARY cage...) cage, some toys, some stress vitamins, some feather conditioning spray, and of course some treats.
The second I put Found QP (we haven't decided on a name) in the cage he became sooo protective of it. Also, he has a fear of toys. I stuck my hand in the cage to put something in there and he lunged and bit down. I didn't back away and insiste he stepped up. He did and once he's out of the cage he's ok. But he still got me good. Good thing, I've been bitten by MUCH bigger birds than a QP. However this makes me realize that Lucy has spoiled me.. she has almost NO cage aggression. The only time she gets nippy with me is if she JUST came out of her cage and I need her to get back in. But for the most part I think I can live in her cage with her and she'd be ok.
She does get a LOT of "out of cage time" Basically if I'm home, she's out. Her cage is in my room so she sees me a lot too. And I'm always buying her new toys and she loves them.
I'm wondering if Found QP hasn't really been handled much/given enough out of cage time/enough toys. Maybe he started plucking BEFORE he was outside? I don't know. I really can't make a call on this. I'm not experienced enough... I just hope he's happier now. He seems to be so sad. It breaks my heart to see a bird like this.
He fell in LOVE with a Happy Hut though. silly little chicken cuddles with it.

I posted on a few websites about a found QP. And have checked Craiglist through and through. I even made my little sisters make signs and put them up all over the neighborhood. Hopefully someone gets in touch with me. I'm going to let him just hang out in his cage for a week or so. Try to improve on his diet (his feathers are in terrrrriiible shape.. he's very plucked...). In a few days I'm going to give him a bath. And after the week of adjusting, I'm going to start working on his aggression. I'm definately not going to let him get the best of me. Poor little guy, he just needs some lovin'!!!

Ok. Thanks again guys. I'm so glad I have this place. As soon as I charge my camera battery I'll post pictures of the little guy!

Hopefully you'll find the owners soon. smile.gif

That could have to do with the cage agression, s/he might be one of the Quakers that can't have one because they can over bond with it and protect it. unsure.gif

Good luck! smile.gif

May I give a suggestion?

I really would give this guy more time to settle in before changing so many things in his environment. I mean, everything has totally changed for him and he must be stressed out to the max. Just take things slow and don't push him too much with coming out of his cage. Give him time to get used to his new environment.

I know you want to do good by him and so far you've done wonders!! And you should be commended for putting so much work/money into him, considering his previous owners could contact you any day to claim him.

All I'm saying is to slow down a bit and let him do it at his speed smile.gif

You should probably plan a vet visit too, to make sure he isn't carrying any disease. If he's been out in the wild, there is a good chance he may be sick (hence the plucking).

Please keep us posted and as I said, you're doing an awesome job with him!

I agree with Carrie about slowing down. Quakers are not very fond of change......You are doing great. Are you going to keep him if nobody claims him? Just curious

I think Found QP is feeling a lot better. He slept all day yesterday and today he's out and about and looking curious. It's good to see him like this. I really don't know what I'll do if no one claims him. On one hand... QP's are amazing and I love Lucy so freakin much. They're not an extremely expensive pet... besides what I do to spoil them of course. But I don't know. We'll see how it goes with him being temporarily here. I'm really hoping somoene calls/emails about him though. I would hate to be missing Lucy. And if they weren't taking the greatest care of Found QP (which is my biggest fear...) maybe I'd be able to help them figure things out. Now my worry is that they're just going to get another bird and keep making the same mistakes.
I have such a soft spot for animals... so most likely this lil guy will stay. I don't know why I decided he's a male. lol.
Ok.. I will update you guys as time goes on!
I sure have missed being here. Ever since Lucy got settled in.. I haven't been visiting as much.. sad.gif I'm back smile.gif
