hi all
i just got my new baby qp on friday and he or
she is already just adorable. loves to sit on my
chest and just cuddle. also seems like already trying
to say hello.
was named by my daughter and grandkids the name
of all things dookie because he had pooped on my shirt.
they wanted to call him lukey dukey but that
was too much. i think dookie will be okay.
bought him from a pet shop and they said i
need to take to a vet within 3 days. what do they
usually do there?

Welcome to you and Dookie!

How old is s/he? It's always a good idea to get them checked over by an avian vet in the beginning to make sure they don't have any diseases or aren't carriers of any diseases, it also gives them a chance to run some tests etc. to check out their overall health, so in the future if need be, they will have some reference.

Congratulations on Dookie! Is this your first bird?
Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome. This is not my first bird. Had
a quaker Bernie for 9 years and then she passed. That's
been about 6 years ago and just now able to get another
baby.
Dookie is 2 months old and just went to the vet. In
excellent health he says. I did notice that Sunday am no
food seemed to have been eaten. Pet store sent me home
with med store mix, cockatiel lafeber, sm pretty bird, and
sm boca nuts and added a little bit of pretty bird weaning
to this. Tried adding small amount warm h20 and ate a small
bit but went and bought cockatiel seed and he ate for ten
minutes. I felt so bad because he couldn't eat what they
sent home but now he eats all the time.
All Dookie wants to do when out of the cage is to
snuggle on my chest. Too cute.
Well talk to you all later. Will send pics soon.

Welcome to you Marilyn and to Dookie...cute name...
Give him/her a chance to settle in and just feed him whatever he'll eat at this point but as he gets settled start putting the pellets in his cage so that he's used to seeing them. Keep introducing him to new things like fresh fruits and veggies and even try eating them in front of him so he knows what to do with them.
Something else that you may already know but just a reminder, is try not to spend any more time with him now than you'll be able to in the next 20 years...If you are continually holding him now he's going to grow to expect that much attention from now on, and if he doesn't get it it could cause behavioral problems down the road.
But we're glad you joined the forum. Lots of fun and knowledgeable people here to help answer questions, or discuss concerns.
Again, welcome and Enjoy Dookie
