This morning I found my dog, Hooch, outside acting like he was drunk or something. He was stumbling and disoriented. Then I found two piles of throw-up. I called the vet and it was mentioned that his behavior could be caused by a number of things(including seizures) and to bring him in. So we took him in immediatly. The vet checked him out, and gave us a couple of options. And since Hooch has never had any history or syptoms before, we are going the cautious route. They gave him a shot to help with the vomiting. They sent with us some special food, that is to be easy on the stomach and digestive tract. After 24 hrs and he is not better, than we will go back in and have some blood test ran. I'm hoping that he will get better and not have to go back in, but he is still shaky and will stumble once in while. So we'll see. Has anyone experience anything like this?

No. But that's too bad. sad.gif I hope he feels better!

Oh no....I hope it isn't any thing too serious and the vet can treat it easily.

How old is your dog? Did the vet mention Antifreeze poisoning or Parvo? HOpe he gets better soon!

He is 4 years old. We've thought about anything he could have gotten into. But there's nothing that we can think of. I keep checking on him. He is resting for now.

Here is hoping your doggie is feeling better soon!

I agree with Andie's Mom ... is there any way your dog ingested some sort of poison? Even ate a poisonous plant or maybe killed a wild animal?

You did the right thing by getting him to the vet right away. Just try to make him as comfy as possible and give him lots of love while he is healing. Keep us posted on his progress!

If he's four that kind of rules out the chances of parvo...but its not impossible.

Has he been eating lots of grass? Animals will consume grass when they have an upset tummy and then end up vomiting it up. Pay close attention to how much liquid he is taking in and whether or not he's still attempting to eat.

Andie's Killian had to have surgery because he was vomiting and Xrays weren't showing any blockage but it turned out he was impacted with grass. So keep a close eye on him...

How's his nose? Is it moist and cool or warm and dry?

What kind of dog is he?
jenndash
I haven't noticed him eating any grass, but that doesn't mean he hasn't. He is an indoor/outdoor dog. We have a doogie door to our enclosed backporch(where he sleeps), so he has access to go outside whenever and I not notice. But will keep that in mind. His nose isn't any different than normal, dry and warm. The vet checked for dehydration, and he's not. We are trying to rack put brains to think of anything he could have gottne into. Yesterday my husband sprayed the veggie plants. Some of the liquid could have dropped to the floor and Hooch may have licked at it.But thats just guessing. I have mentioned it to the vet. He is supposed to call me back. Hooch is half Lab and half pit bull. Here is pic.Click to view attachment

Thanks

Does he have access to where the cars park? Where Antifreeze may have dripped. Its like candy to them and it doesn't take much to make them very sick.

Hope he gets to feeling better soon. and its just a little upset tummy...Have you changed types or brands of dog food recently? Sometimes that can cause an upset tummy...

I hope Hooch is feeling better. I have had a dog that had Parvo before and it isn't pretty. Like Connie said, chances are it ISN'T Parvo. My two little dogs got into old garbage before and stuff and got very, very sick. I also have owned dogs that have seizures, but neither one of them ever vomited.

Is your dog up to date on his vaccinations? Parvo can live on a blade of grass for as long as 7 years and it is VERY contagious. If your dog is not UTD on vaccs there is definitely a chance he could contract it, although as Connie said it is more common in puppies than adults. Have you noticed any bloody stool or diarrhea?

The second thing that comes to mind is a blockage. How is his appetite? Did the vet do any xrays to check for that? We pulled a gallon freezer bag full of socks out of a dog last week..you'd be surprised the at the things they will eat rolleyes.gif

The other thing you might do is check around your yard for mushrooms or anything like that. Some mushrooms can have that type of effect on dogs if they injest them..

Hope your pooch is feeling better soon!!

Okay, well I just got back from the vet again. It is probably the liquid Seven that got dropped on the floor and that Hooch stepped in, and it got absorbed through. The vet thought that if he ingested it, he would probably be dead or very very sick. The vet thinks he's not very sick, condsidering how sick he could be. He could be having a real hard time breathing or having seizures that won't stop. There is nothing the vet can do at this point, because it has already ran through his system. He does think he will get better, if this is the cause. We are to watch him for the next month, if he does not get better. Then we will go back in, to do bloodwork. At that point it will have been something neurological. All we can do is wait to see if he gets better.

Hooch does not have access to the driveway, so that elimanated the antifreeze. Also we have not changed food or bought the food that had been recalled. And yes he is up to date on his vaccinations.

Thanks for the well wishes. smile.gif

I sure hope Hooch gets better fast. Its always so stressful to us because our fids aren't able to communicate in ways we can easily understand to tell us where it hurts etc. And all you can tell is that they just don't feel good...poor guy.

Hope Hooch gets to feeling better. That Sevin stuff is nasty stuff.

I have never used any liquid sevins before but have used plenty of the sevins dust directly on the dogs when i had labs for a flea and tick powder. It never hurt them but maybe the liquid is diff.
