I am switching Otis from his seed mixture that he was on at the pet store. He is about 5 months old. I am following the recommendations for changing to pellets. He seems to eat only a little bit of the pellets (harrisons mixed with zupreem) I have been worried that he is not eating enough. He will eat a few when I pretend to eat them, but not many. He tends to throw them off the side of his cage..same as apples and beans....I wonder if he just likes to feed the dog who is always waiting under his cage! Today I decided to let him eat breakfast with me at the kitchen table...I added a few drops of water to his pellets and pretended to eat it, of course he came right over and started eating. He even said a few "hellos"
Am I spoiling him too much and should I add a few drops of water in his pellets to his dishes in his cage and the top of his cage?
Thanks for any advise!

If you do decide to add water to the pellets in his cage dont leave them in there too long they can get spoiled fast.
Maybe just have a dinner time ritual with your fid where you add water to pellets outside of his cage so he dines with you?
It sounds like you are really enjoying your bird smile.gif

i'm probably not the best person to ask since i KNOW i spoil Cricket. i spoon feed him warm oatmeal in the morning and hand feed him warm baby food in the evening. i think we both look forward to that time together. just be prepared that Otis will expect the same treatment every morning!

i like the bonding time together but i'm now running into a problem when i go on vacation the end of july. the breeder who is bird sitting for me says she might not have time to hand feed him twice a day like i do, so now i'm worried.

i've been backing off the spoon feedings a little. first i began with him sitting out with me and letting him eat out of the bowl himself and gradually worked up to being able to put the bowl in the bottom of his cage and he'll eat it there.

all i can say is... you do what is best for YOU and OTIS.
