Hello all! I have a question about my qp's beak and feet. Over the last day or so I have noticed that Reggie's beak and sometimes her feet feel very warm, almost hot. Is this normal? Could this have anything to do with the weather? It has been really hot here lately and I try not to use the AC with the birds. Is this a sign of sickness? Or am i just being a worried mama

? Thanks

I was looking at a QP at a pet store the other day, and his feet seemed hot to me, but they said that was normal.
Are his hoter than usual?

Its prob the hot weather. They do lose heat through their feet so he is prob just staying cool.

Well, yesterday morning is the first time that ever noticed his beak feeling hot. I was getting my morning kisses :blush. It seemed to come and go throughout the day and continued into today. It stays warm for about 30 mins, then goes away. In the four months that I have had him, I have not noticed his feet feeling warm.

I would guess it's the heat as well. The A/C is okay to use as long as they aren't right near a vent and the decrease in tempearture is gradual... I believe. We use it when it gets hot and Casey is fine with it.

Others should have some more thoughts!

Oh good. Thankyou! This is my first summer with birds

so I'm not exactly sure what their keeping cool techniques are.

As Casey's Mom said, air conditioning is fine as long as they aren't in the direct line of the chilled breeze...
As far as his feet and beak feeling warmer...Its normal...The blood vessels in the feet are very close to the surface and also there is blood supply to the beak, they do expel heat through their feet but you can tell if they are too hot if they are breathing through an open beak Panting like... Their feet and beak will also get warmer when they get excited or have been overly active... Its not something I would be too concerned over unless they are panting a lot. Then I would get them to a cooler part of the house and make sure they have plenty of fresh cool water to drink.

One thing that I have noticed with my birds is that if they are getting some attention and lovin' from me, their feet/beak will get hot. It's almost a sign that they are enjoying being loved

Ive heardf that hot feet means they are trying to cool themselves or they are just hot.
