I am wondering if nutriberries are a good main diet. Eeryone talks about this big long process of switching to pellets when my Julie who is on seeds love nutriberries. Besides Gizmo is on pellets and he doesn't like them he LOVES seeds. I am not switching him, but i am wondering if nutriberries are a fine main diet. I hear it is very healthy. The only downside I know of is the price. Any suggestions would be nice as I am switching Julie soon.

My avian vet says nutriberries contain a lot of sugar and should not be used as their main diet but an occassional suppliement or treat. He recommended Harrisons pellets but said the Roudybush and Zupreem are fine too. Buttons likes her occassional nutriberry though. I give them to her if we travel or if she's been particularly good. wink.gif

Yup, Nutriberries should only be a treat, not a main diet. Pellets are still the way to go. The conversion can be tough, but the pay off is worth it.

Laferber's claims they can be used as a main source of diet, but I agree with the others. I wouldn't do it.

As for having Julie on seeds...that's not too bad. I would try and offer pellets though too. If she eats a lot of fresh foods, then seeds would be fine as a main source of her diet. Cockatiels do need some seed in there diet (more so than Quakers). I have my tiels on a pellet based diet, with lots of fresh foods and seeds several times a week.

I thought that nutriberries have some seed in them. So if the berries have seeds in them i could feed that with a lot of fresh fruits in them. One of the top 4 ingredients is seed if im not mistaken [i may be] Are seeds healthier than nutriberries

Is what an avian vet (U Utrecht vet sci dept and also a parront herself) told me too, about 8 years ago (don't know if the composition is still the same, but I guess it is). She even told me that to give, for instance, millet as a treat was a better idea and she was the one who converted "me" to pellets (which my fids, thankfully, started eating right away).

who confesses she has never seen a single nutriberrie but thinks that nutriberries sound scrumptious... LOL
