Hello everone,
I am very new to this forum thing, and very excited to be here.
I live around Seattle, WA. I am very seriously thinking about getting a QP. I have had a few "fids" in my past. The most recent was my little budgie buddy, Sweet Pea. She passed away in Jan of this year. I miss her terribly, but think I am ready for a new relationship.
I have a couple concerns about my choice, but will post them in the appropriate forums.
I have found the information to be very informative so far. It will be great to have somewhere to come and learn about my little buddy should I decide on a Quaker.
I just have to learn about all the computer tricks to get things posted. It seems all my images are far too large, so for now I will use some generics.....
Well, time for more research, I just can't see and learn enough about these little cuties!
Thanks for being here!

Welcome Tina!!!

Don't be fooled about all the bad stuff you read about Quakers...I seriously have to wonder if there is even a website out there that has good information on these little guys! When I was researching Quakers, I almost didn't get one because of all the bad things I had read. But I talked to a breeder and a few other people who set me straight biggrin.gif I've had Max for 2.5 years and never once regretted my decision.

Good call, Kate smile.gif

Oh, and yeah, I felt the same way as you do, regarding Quakers. Someone suggested one, but then from what I read, I was a little distrusting on that advice. However, I absolutely adore Red, she's the best! She entertains me (and the rest of the family) daily.

I did, though, choose to rehome a Quaker in need, rather than getting a baby, just because I was so unsure. Red was already tame, and had no problems adjusting to our home. She has accepted my husband and I into her flock (she has "chosen" my husband as her "mate", lol)... she still isn't too sure about the kids, but I wouldn't be either. They run really fast, and are very unpredictable! hehehe

I realize that rehoming a tame Quaker may not be the easiest in all situations, and I also realize that some people prefer to bond with them from babies, but it was the right choice for me/us!

Good luck, and you are definitely in the right forum!!! People here are amazing, and they help me with one question or another every day, lol.

Thanks Kate, I will look right now!

I got my first Quaker about a year and a half ago. It was my first bird ever. I am so in love with my little green monster!!!! Milo keeps us laughing everyday. I miss him so much during the day that I have to come here just feel better about having a job. lol. There soooo much fun.
Anyway just wanted to say hey. Good luck in your decision

Thanks to all of you for the warm welcomes.
I am hoping to hear about Gonzo soon.
I do have on e concern that I dont' know exactly where to post so thought I would start here.
It concerms noise.
Does anyone reading this live in an apt complex? Or know anyone that does whose family includes a QP?
It is the main concern about my choice of fid to be.
Thanks again for your time, I look forward to spending much time here, learning and sharing.....Tina

Hello there Tina and welcome. Iam still new here as well but i love it and you will too. Its very addicting on here and its where i spend most of my time. smile.gif I live in a big apt complex and have a QP. They have no problem with anyone in the building having any kind of bird.

Thanks Birdlover,
From most of the stuff I have seen and read the noise doesn't seem to be intolerable, but I just don't want to get one and then have to rehome due to noise. I know I could never have a conure, had a sun and was she a sreamer when she wanted to be. But we loved he anyway and it wasn't an apt.
I am already addicted to this place and it hasn't been 24 hours! YIKES...... hehe
Birdlover_24
Oh your welcome. I take it you live in an apt complex as well?? HAHA it is addicting isnt it.. happy.gif

Yes, I do live in an apt. complex now. But I won't let that keep me from a life with fid! hehe
have a great day!

By the way... Sorry for your loss of sweet pea. sad.gif I lost my lovebird Dante a few months ago, so i know how you feel.

Can Quakers live in an apartment? It really varies bird to bird on how loud they are. And, how thick the apartment walls are.

Having said that, I have a Quaker, 8 Cockatiels, 2 Conures and 2 Lineolated Parakeets and I live in an apartment and I've not had a noise complaint yet smile.gif

Oh sure, you can hear the birds in the hallway, but you can't hear them across the hall in the other people's apartment. Or the apartment above me or below me.

Besides, most buildings only have noise restrictions between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. So I don't think you have to worry smile.gif

BTW, I Renton! I used to date a fellow who lived in Kent. The thing that most amazed me about your area is that you can travel down the city street and go from one city to another without even knowing you did!! LOL

It seem like everyone has had a pic problem before. You have to reduce in size the pixels with your camera very easy or a camera program
