I know that it's supposed to be 24x24, so I was just wondering if 18x18 is too small for a blue crowned conure. It's pretty tall, about 4 feet.

I don't have any advice for you, but I'm bumping it for all the folks with more expertise.

Also, I absolutely LOVE your quote. That's awesome!

And, I'd love to see pics of little no-name, lol.

I don't actually have any pics yet. We don't have him home yet...

But we are leaning towards the name "Mattie" or "Maddie"

I think that you'd want something bigger, like a 20x24. Try and stick to bar spacing that's 1/2 to 5/8" so that baby can't get his head through.
Dark Angel
the bigger the better...because it might be adequate now but as your bird matures its going to need a bigger cage and as quincys slave mentioned bar spacing is important. Also it needs to be a good quality cage with strong bars because as your conure grows its going to gnaw on them and their beaks are strong.

It's pretty heavy-duty.

We got it (I thought It was pretty big when we were just at the store... but then once I got it home and set it up and put toys in it... it's really not)

I think we're going to take it back tomorrow and order one off the internet...

This is the one we're probably getting:

(32x30x67)

(it's jsut like the one we have, but a lot bigger...)

I like a cage that is wider than it is tall...but that's just me...and trying to find them is hard...Until recently I had my blue crown in an 18 x 18 but thats considered Bare minimum and the door was never closed except when I was away from home or she was in bed for the night. She did just fine...But its true, Bigger is better Since Mr. No Name is already 10 months old he's as big as he's going to get and so in my opinion 5/8 to 3/4 bar spacing is fine, which is only an 1/8 inch difference (obviously) is fine for them. Make sure there are two sides of horizontal bars and 2 sides of vertical bars...helps them with climbing and sliding...

Hope this helps.

that is what this one is. (like the 18x18 we have, too)

I would like it to be bigger. It looked bigger at the store (but didn't fit in our car...) once it was shipped... I think it shrank.

I like the bigger one.

What do y'all think of the name Tido (divertido is spanish for funny... and they're from spanish-speaking countries... so it kinda fits, i think...)

I don't see how 18 X 18 can be too too small if you'll be letting him out a lot

My cage is 20 X 20 X 24 and it houses a Sun Conure and a Quaker and I think it is a perfect! Lots of room for the two of them to flap and flit around in there. But Suns are and Quakers are slightly smaller than Blue Crowns yes?

I have to agree about getting the bigger cage.......after you put all of those toys and feed dishes and etc.......your bird will have some extra room to move...LOL
Alusdra
Blue crowns I think are on the larger side for conures- so 18x18 I would say would be I'm-flat-broke-bare-minimum. Especially since conures tend to be more energetic they should have more room. The one you're looking at from the internet is great! (I agree with the wider rather than tall and how difficult it is to find them...) 20x20 for two birds is definitely too small. Having that size cage for just Sylvia I had problems fitting all the different kinds of perches (at least- rope, wood and cement) and then bowls etc. I would think that minimum would be at least 1.5x minimum for one bird so 18x1.5=27".

Well I once had a large cage like a 24X24 for my two parrots.

P.S. am I the only one that has a mellow and quiet Sun conure?

Anyway, I had more problems with cage agression witht he larger cage and then eventually it gave out on me. I am doing much better with the 20X20 for some string reason. I wouldn't go smaller than that for my birds but they are out a lot.
Lindsay and Tito
The only way we could get a cage that is the size I found online that is wider than is is tall is if it has the same base size, but is shorter... then he'd have less room.

So I think we're getting the one I pictured up there rolleyes.gif .

Thatn's for the help!
