To those of you that have a blue quaker. Have you found that you spend more time dealing with illness with yours? So far with my babies the blues just always get sick. I have lost a couple already this year. They are so much smaller then the greens so was wondering if they are just prone to illnesses? Anyone have any input on this it would be great thanks.
PS I'm spliting up my blue pair and mating them with greens next year in hopes to get stronger babies.

Will that upset the pairs to break them up? I don't raise babies so I don't know but I can tell you that Blue is very hearty and healthy! He is five and he is a feisty bird let me tell you! Course, I better take that back or I probably jinx myself! blink.gif

I have never really heard anything about blues being prone to more illness but I def will be following this thread to find out what others opinions are on the subject.

No they are fine being separate. I was going to do this soon away. Makes step up training easier.
I did talk to a breeder that says the lose 50% of the blues from parent's that are both blue. Hmmm makes me wonder.
Good thing Im spliting this pair up and setting up with green mates for next season.

Stop and think about how you get blues to begin with...then that might help explain why blues can be more delicate. And when you cross blue to blue you are doubling the situation...In other words, in my opinion if you cross close relatives to get a certain color you are weakening the strain to start with...when you breed two weakened strains together, you're compound the situation.

You should breed to a Green split to blue as I understand it. A standard Blue and standard Green breed together will result in all Green split to blue (I think) and A standard Blue and a Green split to blue will get only half blue babies if I remember correctly

I don't breed birds, so I don't have any experience or advice to offer in that area. But I have owned a green QP, and I have a blue QP now. The blue QP did take a lot longer to wean to solid foods as a youngster, but he has since been fine -- no problems.

That is correct.
