Ok I need to lower my ph in my fish tank it is an 8.2 right now. How do I lower it?

You can put a little peat in the filter, but I don't know if that would be safe for your fish. I know that is something we did. but if you add too much, it makes the PH too low.

but if they're okay, it could just be your tap water is a higher PH, and they'll just get used to it. if you mess with it too much, they can get sick/ die frim frequent changes in the PH.

(Have you jsut tested your tap water)??

Kathy I'm not sure about a fish tank but for the 2000 gal little fish pond that we have; if the ph is too high we take half of the water out and refill with fresh water...That usually brings it down and to raise the ph, which you aren't interested in naturally right now, is to add baking soda which will increase the ph....And also there is a solution that you can buy that will lower the ph but you have to be careful with it and go by the directions...Not sure what it is called, but anyone connected with the fish area in stores should know or could help you look for the solution on the shelf.....

Don't know how much trouble it would be for you to take half of the water out, but if you are in a hurry to do it, I would suggest that and refill with fresh water...Good Luck, hope the fish don't burn...........

I believe that you can get a ph balancer for the water from like petsmart/petco. I think there is one called bullseye. This is what we use in my zebrafish lab.

Julie is right on .. to lower the ph you would need to do a water change, feed a little less and don't add any more fish.

Just take water out and replace it with fresh water .. this serves two purposes. It lowers ph and at the same time cleans up the gunk ...

We have a hose that has an attachment similar to what is used to fill and empty a water bed .. Ian empties about 1/3 of the tank does a bit of seascaping and replaces with fresh water. He also adds something to the water as he fills it back up but I am not sure what that is .. and he is sleeping right now .. blush.gif
