Hey everyone! I'm new on this forum and I just brought my first quaker parrot home yesterday. Hes 4.5 months old and not so chatty yet. Hopefully he will be soon though! I look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing stories about Franchesco. Bye for now!

Gratz on your new baby and welcome to the forum. FYI not all quakers talk. I have a 15 year old that only talked once several years ago. I did not get him till he was 7 years old.
But with luck and pratice s/he just might.

Welcome to the most addicting place on the internet! laugh.gif

Just keep talking to Franchesco and hopefully he'll surprise you with some words soon, it's always fun to hear their first word! wub.gif ...but some just aren't talkers. wink.gif Some start talking early in their life (15 weeks +) and others take a while to start (1 year +). We love pictures around here, so please post some pictures of Franchesco if you get a chance! biggrin.gif

Feel free to jump in anytime! smile.gif

Again, Welcome! smile.gif

Heres the first picture I took of Him/Her sitting on a perch in the window next to my computer. He/She seems to love to look out the window while playing with the toys hooked to the perch. More to come later!Click to view attachment

Welcome..when I brought Otis home, about 4 months old, he was very quiet at first. After a couple of weeks of settling in he said "hello" I was so excited! Now he chatters often, only I cannot understand everything he is saying. He will talk while sitting on his top perch and sometimes from his play area on top of the cage. He is about 5 months old now.

Welcome! He will be talking before you know it. If he isn't, spy on him...some are closet talkers!

I was hoping my QP would talk and she does. She's 7 months old now and talks up a storm. I found if I kept saying things in context she would follow. Like in the morning when I uncover her I say good morning...Now I start my day with a big smile cause she says good morning back to me. If I am wanting her not to rip my freckles off my arm. I say no no no and before she takes a peck she says no no no. Same as stepping up. I would say step up or come on out. Now she says the same thing to me . It's too cute. But she'll also tell the dog to go lay down. I guess she heard that enough to repeat it. I just try to give her one phrase to say until she repeats it on her own. But she does know the quaker song and will say good job when she's done. When I get home from work I take her into a separate room where we are alone. It's one on one time and she listens quite well. I'll hold her head against my lips and I whisper to her. She loves it. When she's ready she'll then sayy I love you. It just makes my heart melt. She's my baby and I am so lucky to have her. It's most fortunate for me she talks. Good luck and be patient. Relax and have fun with her.
