Full Version: Question On Sounds And Mannerisms

I know that as quakers get older they mimic and talk so figuring out what they mean isn't in black and white. I was wondering if there is more of a set of sounds or mannerisms in baby quakers that have some meaning. The 2 things that my quaker does (Sam is about 2 1/2 months old) does and I'm not sure if they are sounds of contentment or aggrivation.

1. Head-shake with little warble chirping

2. A grunt/purr sound

Anybody have any idea of what they might mean?

Quaker language involves many sounds to express their emotions, desires, etc.

The head-shake with little warble chirping is probably a "left over" food begging response. Young quakers will often use it when they want attention, cuddling or a taste of what you're eating.

They do the "grunt/purr" when they feel safe, contented and loved.

The loud high pitched "chaeek chaeek chaeek........" means "OK, where the he** have you gone off to this time!!!"

They have a low pitched "quack" type sound that means "I see something different and I'm not sure I like it."

Just watch and learn. He'll teach you a lot with his sounds and actions.

I love the grunt/purr sound. wub.gif Charlie also makes kind of a chewing/grinding sound with his beak when he's happy.

The one I'm most familiar with is the shrieking flock call. laugh.gif

As you have your QP longer you'll learn what his differnt sounds mean.

Oh good... I was so afriad of him becoming disgruntled. But then again...I think the only really disgruntled one is Gypsie (my 1 yr old shep mix). She isn't happy that Sam is taking away from some of her mommy time.

hehe I know what you mean about the dog being disgruntled. Our dog is disgusted with the amount of baby talk directed in the birds direction laugh.gif

Darla (our dog) will get up, give me a dirty look, and turn her back to me when I'm talking to Yogi hehehehe.

Yogi is just as jealous though. He does the ack Ack ACK! if I start talking to the dog wacko.gif

Sounds like your birdy is a happy one.

I got to hear his "wake the heck up I'm hungry" noise today. It was a very loud cheeking noise. As soon as I sat up out of bed he jumped on the cage door and was hopping back and forth making his warble sounds. lol He didn't even let me finish mixing the baby bird formula and was eating it right out of the bowl! laugh.gif I was like "Sam...you do have food in your cage you know".

Awwwwww!! That food in the cage doesn't come with mommy's attention though.

Watch him; he'll get your heart.
