Quaker Parrots Forum > Welcome! > Introductions
equineRtist
I am on a couple of forums, but none set up like this, so I hope I am posting the right way, in the right place.

I'm another Jo, so Rtist will do if you don't have one of those.

I am owned by 9 horses, 2 dogs, 3 birds and 19 Koi. I have had birds all my life (ahemmmm, all 70 years) My birds are all rescue birds, 1 blind, white Tiel, Casper (great talker), 1 Sun Conure, BO (called Bo, but stands for Big Orange) and 1 Quaker, Kiwi (pretty good talker).

I am glad to find you and have already been enriched greatly by your stories, pictures and love for your birds. I also read much of your grief at the loss of your birds. I had a Blue Front Amazon, 40, Finches and a Cockatiel that died when my house burned in 1987 and I know how the loss of a loving "buddy-bird" hurts. We just have to love them while we can.

I am an artist whose favorite things to paint are horses, birds and dogs, but I paint ALMOST anything on ALMOST anything. I have done wall murals for years, but am retiring from that after 3 more murals. Climbing ladders and scaffolds at my age is not smart!

I am mostly reading. It looks like you have just about every subject covered. I do have one hint that is quite valuable, but many of you will already know it. I'm not sure where to post it. I read a post that makes me want to remind anyone who might have forgotten. I'm sure I will look around and find where to post it.

Thanks for letting me in the door. I can see you are all a great lot of caring people!

blink.gif I hope I hit the right "reply" choice.
My Kiwi is about 7. She was a throw away at less than a year old. Her owner got an African Grey and decided she had no time for Kiwi any more. I have had all three birds for about 6 years.
I had another Tiel, Bogey, but he loved my granddaughter so much, I let her have him. He was a throw away too. His owner was getting married and her boyfriend said NO PETS. Silly idiot gave up her bird and her dog for this guy. I'd have given up the guy...sorry!

Bogey lived to be 23 years old. He as eight when I got him and nobody told him that he probably shouldn't live that long. He was very active and happy until the day he died, a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the welcome, folks. I can tell I am going to enjoy this forum.

Awwww I'm very sorry that Bogey passed away. It is so heartbreaking.

23 years old is a good age for a tiel. I know some who are in their late 20's!!! It's just wonderful to see them live that long, isn't it?

Jo---Harley and I welcome you to the board....You have a wonderful love for pets/animals I can tell.....Hope you enjoy your stay....

And I certainly would like to see some pictures of your artistic work..Hope you will share with us some of them....

Thanks, Carrie Anne. I love birds and animals of all kinds. My family raised Canaries before I was born and for a while after. I taught a Canary to say his name once...well, maybe HER name. I either had a female that sang or a male that laid eggs, which is rare in either case.

We have cut down on our animals in our old age. What am I saying? OLD? I feel 25 every day!!! LOL! I think the animals keep us young. I can still break a horse, so I certainly don't feel old! (actually I am ALMOST 70...give me three more months of 69)

It shows here that you people love your birds. People without them have no idea what a joy they are missing. I have always said it wouldn't bother me if someone called me birdbrain. These little fellows are SMART!!!

Julie, yep, I do love the animals wub.gif and I already know i will enjoy my stay here.

I also do custom Christmas cards, and blank note cards with peoples' own horses, dogs and birds on them and I have a website, but it is used as a business site (I make websites too), so I don't think I can add that URL here. I'll go back and read the rules.

Thank you for the welcome. It's already a pleasure to be here.

wacko.gif OOPS, I see my signature shows my codes. I need to fix that, huh? rolleyes.gif

Welcome to the forum:

Yes, our birds are smart. My Chica certainly knows how to run a household! She is a pretty good boss though.

She was also a throwaway and so badly neglected and abused when she came to me it has been a total joy to see her respond to love and care over the past three years. Not a single feather more plucked since the day she came to live with me and so affectionate and sweet. I would surely hate to be without her.

All the best to you and your menagerie.

Lizz and Chica the wonder bird.

Thanks LIZZ, you know you have a happy bird when it no longer plucks it's beautiful feathers. Yours is a great place for your fid!

Mine know just how to control me, but they seem to love me anyway, even if I am a pushover! laugh.gif

lizz, I didn't mean to shout your name. I am on a horse forum that uses caps on all names, so they are easily seen in a post sent to many members.

I'll have to get used to the differences here. Sorry. blush.gif

Welcome Jo... glad you found us and we found you. It sounds as if you will have some interesting insights for us.
Just yesterday in a post, I compared having a fear around horses to fear around birds. they both will pick up on it and exploit it, and having that experience with horses has made me more positive and confident with birds, especially my rescue. I know for sure that when a horse senses any fear in you, they walk all over you (literally) an birds will do the same. Thankfully, a Quaker bite cannot compare to a horse standing on your foot or rubbing you against a tree!
Anyway, welcome young lady and I am looking forward to some pictures and stories!

Cheeky's Mum and lg2312, thank you for your kind words. This is by far the nicest group of people I have come across besides my horse group. (They even meet once a year.)I tried a gardening group (I love flowers) but they are super serios, don't have any fun with it, at least the one I joined.

I read for a loooong time yesterday and was quite impressed, but I wasn't far into reading before I knew I wanted to join this group. I remembered reading where someone had had horses.

I am loving all your pictures and will be oh so happy to put up an album and show off my fids and furbs (furbabies). Of course you knew I would. Hahahaha! I am loving this forum already, but what do you expect when birdy people come together? LOL!
Casey's Mom
Welcome to the forum Jo! smile.gif

Nobody warned you that this place is extremely addicting! laugh.gif This is the best group of people around... everyone is so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, I'm sure you're going to love it here! smile.gif Can't wait to see some of your pictures and hear some of your stories, you sound like one talented lady! biggrin.gif

Again, Welcome and feel free to jump in anytime! smile.gif
~Wasabi~
Hi and Welcome! I can't wait to see some pics and read some stories about your animals!
equineRtist
Casey's Mom and Wasabi,

Thank you both. No one had to warn me about the addiction. I know that will happen quickly! I could tell when I started lurking here.
There are so many forums out there that you have to join before you can read posts, so I was thrilled to find one about one of mt favorite subjects that I could actually look into before joining. I loved what I saw, a warm and happy bunch of bird lovers!

I already know I will love it here. wub.gif
