I figured it'd help Bentley to have a playstand so he's not on his cage all the time and can ease up with the aggression. Plus he needs things to do. I've been giving him a lot of out of cage time. I still haven't found a bigger cage for him but I figure at least this way he gets to hang out and do more than just sit in that little one. Seeing as all my animals are in my room, I'm kinda tight for space but we'll make it work. (I have two puppies, a 30 gallon salt water fish tank, 2 bettas, a corn snake, Lucy and Bentley including their cages.. allll in my room!! It's a big room but still.. yikes sometimes!)
Lucy would LOOOOVE a playstand cause she's just getting into that time where she's into EVERYTHING. I want to keep her busy.
I've looked into getting the ready made ones but seriously, lol... I don't have that kind of money!
Sooooo I'm making it
I'm going to go with PVC because drilling holes isn't my thing. I can use a saw but nothing crazy smile.gif
I have NO idea what vet wrap is. But what about other options for covering the PVC to make it more managable but safe for the birdies.
I'm going to have to hit up some new websites looking for toys too to hang off of it too. Lucy LOOOOVES new toys. I know some QP's have a hard time accepting new things but Lucy is insane! When I get some stuff for Bentley she was going NUTS cause she wanted it. It's hilarious to watch her with new toys too!!

Ok... so any tips. Ideas. Suggestions. I will be so appreciative! Gotta take care of my little boogers!

Vet wrap is like cast material. It comes on a roll and is usually bright colours and is self-adhesive. It looks like a regular human cast when someone brakes an arm or something, but is soft. smile.gif If you really want to use it, your vet would definitely have some and I *believe* some pet stores have it too.

But if you don't want to use vet wrap you can just sand the PVC, that's what we did for our little table stand. It's not hard to do, and it just gives more grip to the PVC, just sand as much grip as you wish. smile.gif

Have fun! smile.gif That's my plan for this weekend too! biggrin.gif

a brand of vet wrap is called Coflex...call the local vet, they'll know where to get some.
Lindsay and Tito
petsmarts with equine departments sell it. and most large animal feed stores.

I've went through the DYI section on here and got several differnt ideas from other members play stands, and put a few ideas of each on into one, we haven't made it yet, my b/f drew up a sketch last night though

But this vet wrap stuff - when i get my blood taken ( i have graves disease so theyve got to check my blood alot for my thyroid) They've actually used some of the self stick wrap on me instead of tape! They just wrapped it around the my arm, it was so much nicer taking that off then tryin to get that god aweful tape they use off LOL

so maybe you can ask your doc if they use stuff like that, and where they purchase it or if perhaps you can get some off him if your real close to ur doc anyway lol

Yay!! Good luck!! My boyfriend is so excited. We've only been dating a few months and he's so into my "zoo"! It should be a fun project!! Post pics when you're done!!

Ok, I did it myself. I have had most of the base pieces cut for a couple months, but didn't get motivated to finish it until I wanted to move the fids back in the bedroom again.

It is made out of pvc. I wrapped the perch/climbing areas with a variety of things: sisal, jute, leather, and the vet wrap- to give different sizes and textures. I used a glue gun to attach the food and water dishes to a screw connection for easy cleaning. The base is the bigger diameter and reduces where the play area starts.

I am lucky... my s/o owns a plumbing supply house, so I didn't pay for any of the pvc or fittings. here it is...

And here are the spoiled FIDS!!!

They get their first look at it in the morning and they better like it!

Looks great Lisa! Lucky little fids! smile.gif I just made one today too, but it's just the PVC frame without toys, grips, food cups etc., so it's not completely done yet.

Thanks for sharing! smile.gif

Thanks!
That was the time consuming part... wrapping all those bars. I used a glue gun to attach the sisal and jute and leather, just spot glue. It doesn't look so big in the pictures, but it is about 4 1/2 feet high, and about 2' x 3' base.
I worked my big ole arse off and they better like it!
