Well, the transition went smooth. The little girl has had a rough time the past few months.

But she is home, in a nice big cage (her other one was meant to house a lovie)her wings were clipped ALL off except the first 4 primaries. But I got her to the groomer and we fixed what we could so she won't hurt herself.

She settled in fine, seems to want to be trusting but is just testing her boundary's. She is snuggling safe and happy in her new home and chattering back and forth with Pistachio from her quarantine room.

Here she is.... I re-named her Sesame.

At lunch today, I gave her some fresh veggies and cooked pasta. She didn't know what to do with it but when I put some of her seed mix over it, she cooed and showed more interest.

I also tried to give her a Zupreem Pellet and she lunged at me. I didn't move and just gave her a matter of fact No. She stopped short of biting me, thought about it and came in nicer to get the piece of food. I praised her heavily for making the right decision. The I gave her another piece and she was very nice.

She is just scared and learning that she can trust me. It will take time but she will soon learn she is not leaving my home and she can rest easy each night and dream no more of finding that forever home. I just adore her!

its good she's getting the concept of No and treats..lol
Your doing a great job, keep it up and keep us updated..

Congratulations on the new addition! IRNs can be soooooo sweet ........ and take a CHUNK out of you if she uses that big red beak!!! I know! I'll have a scar on my arm till I die from my IRN Nala Click to view attachment

Once she learns to trust you and falls in love with you, she'll coo and purr and just be a real lover bird Click to view attachment ... but probably be VERY jealous of you.

It took 6 months of working with Nala to get her to let me handle her, and once she decided I was ok, she flew to me and now will try to keep all the rest of the fids off me. I have to keep her put away if I want to snuggle the other babies, but they all get their share ... including Nala.

Nala is not clipped ... I havent' been able to do it by myself without losing fingers dry.gif so she's flighted, but I don't mind ...

She will now shower on her shower perch Shower but that has taken another 9 months of work ....

so PATIENCE is the key with these beauties wink.gif but it is well worth it.

Have fun with Sesame ... and good luck ... you're gonna love her even more when she returns your attention. wub.gif

Things are going well with the new IRN... it has been a week and we are slowly working on getting her used to and not afraid of the stick I want to use to teach her step up.

She works for bribes which is great and she is not so terribly scared when I go to open the cage, she does still climb the walls but she doesn't stay as long anymore.

She will also watch me change out the food and water dish, she never attempts to attack me and will move away if my hand gets to close to her. I think this is a good thing, it means she just doesn't trust yet. I can work on that.

Oh, yes and I have changed her name to Mojito... Sesame just didn't flow for me. But Mojito worked.

Again Thanks Lisa Barnes!
Frankie's Mom

I'll take more pics of Mojito when I can teach her to step up on the stick... right now she is not coming out of the cage, primarily because I can't catch her without scarying her to death....

Any suggestions so she can have some free time let me know. It has been a week, but I just don't want to over do it for her. She seems to be settling just fine though, she has even started to play with a few toys!

It took milo three weeks before he was comfortable around us. I have never had one of these birds so i dont know. stuff like reading to her and just talking softly. I sure someone will know more.

Lisa Barnes told me about her. So I contacted the current caretakers and we made the exchange. She has had a hard life being moved around alot in the last 5-6 months.

But she is HOME now.

I spend a lot of time reading to her and talking to her. I suppose I am doing everything right, just will wait patiently for her to make the choice to interact nicely.

I just thought I would post some updated pics of my little cutie!

This is when I was giving her a bath. She LOVED it.

She stepped up for me last Saturday and we really have been making good progress. She went to the vet for her wellness check up and everything looks great. In a few more days I will put her in the family room with the rest of us.

She should get her new cage tonight (hopefully) and we will get her settled in and then we will slowly progress her into the family room.

I have a small temp cage that she has been playing on and hanging out in while in the Quarantine room. I will move that into the Family room and use it to put her in for an hour or so at a time. If I see that she settles in really quick then I will move her into the family room permanently.

It will be a big move because she will be in there with all the movement and activity, But I think she is feeling like she is missing out being in the quarantine room.

So enjoy the pics, I will post more soon.

How did you do that???????? Wow that was fun. she is sooooo pretty!!!

I used photobucket. They have a program where you can put together little things like that. Thank you we think she is beautiful too. We just got her new cage put together and put her in it last night. We also moved her into the family room so it might take her a few days to settle back in since being moved into the family room.

Her cage was not as big as I expected, but it will have to do. It is not too small and she seems to like hanging upside down from the scalloped top. So all is good! It was what I could afford for now. I suppose I could get something bigger if I got another bird! LOL wink.gif

Here is one I made for Pistachio:
