I may be off my rocker here, but I was wondering if any of you who've had the time and resources (and/or major creativeness) have made any kind of theme to go with your bird's cage/habitat.

It's a common thing in the guinea pig world, myself included. All my guinea pig cages have themes to go with the piggies that live in them. It's just something I like to do when selecting their accessories.

So, I have this new cockatiel I adopted last month. She's the one in the avatar. I'm all about making her home girly. She already has a purply rope perch and lots pinkish toys I bought her.

Thank you PacosMom for mentioning the icing colors at Walmart. I picked up one of those in pink. It occurred to me that I could just dye her wooden perches. Plus I colored part of another toy.

Yeah, I should have used gloves.

I'll be buying her a big black cage once the bird show comes back in October. I think the pink accessories will go so well with it. I'll be making more fun things in this theme, too.

If anyone has a theme or knows where I can find girlie-colored bird stuff, please share!

Here's what I've done so far.

That's a neat idea!! Although my boys would be mortified!! LOL

Since the perches have completely dried, they have become an amazing shade of bright pink!! Luckily, the pink on my hands is slowly fading.

thats a cute idea!!!!

I do not have any themed cages, but you may be onto something here. Perhaps you could make up some sort of themed starter cage packages to sell!

Dont panic though the first time you see your birdie with pink feet..at least on the bottom. Could happen any time after she gets wet. After a bath, if she rubs under that fluffy end to dry, you may have a pink qp. tongue.gif

Kate, I'll keep that in mind. Especially since she is a grey and white cockatiel, so she might be more likely to get stained!

The colors came out beautifully. One of the perches is brighter and darker than the other. I may keep them like this, or dye the lighter one again.

This is the cage she came with and it's not a permanent home for her. We are currently designing play stands (one will be manzanita--look for more threads in the future on things I will be making). In the meantime she gets playtime in the living room with us.

Sorry, I guess i missed where it was a cockateil and not a qp. Either way, the color will show up more now. But it does look pretty.

I have one question about the bells I see in the photos....Are these the type bells that someone said their quaker had eaten part of the outside and had gotten into it's stomach...It was just recently..Can't remember who the poster was...And someone responded with they use only stainless bells and put up a link where they get theirs..

Just wondering is all....

I don't know anything about that story. Is it that the bell had a toxic metal? Or toxic paint?

My husband and I have considered going down a similar route before. Usually, though, I'm busy sculpting animals and creating fun little things.

You never know, it could be in the future. I've already had an online friend tell me she wants to buy the guinea pig hay sack, blanket, and toys I make.

thats actually not a bad idea, my cage is white, there is some blue on it, but i think now im gonna add a 'sea' theme considering kai..lol I just ordered different color sea life bird toys for the boys, blue and green beads and a few other things with blue on it, I think im gonna dye the perchs different shades of blue (thanks for the Koolaid idea, I have a bunch of it)

for tilly's cage maybe alittle girly ..lol pink and purple sound good? paulie he's a a rainbow bird..lol so there you go..
