I see that many people have made play areas of PVC. They look awesome and I would like to make one for mine, eventually. I was just wondering what size was used for quakers. I looked at Home Depot and the smallest they had was 1/2 inch. Is that good, or should it be smaller or larger?

I didn't get the smallest one they had.

I believe our PVC stand is made out of the 3/4". A friend of our's make's bird toys and stands and gave us a really small stand and I just bought the same size stuff as she had used. It seems perfect for her feet.

You could use either.

Have fun building!

I think I used 1/2 inch for our pvc stand.

I used 1" on the base and 1/2 way up to keep it sturdy. Then, I reduced to 3/4 (I am pretty sure it is 3/4"). Even with the rope or wrap, it makes a nice perching size for a Quaker.
I have changed the design a little since these pictures.

i used 1/2 inch also. i love the stand in the pic! i thought i was being pretty creative with mine but... lol. the thing i like about the pvc is that you can change it up to suit your mood as often as you want, as long as you have the necessary connectors.
i posted before about accessable water/food dishes, and i think your pic shows what i am looking for. are those "dishes" actually huge caps? and how do you secure them?

That is a great playpen! I really want to make some fancy ones for my bird (soon to be 2 birds!)and do it as inexpensively as possible! What was the total appr. cost of the PVC pipe and connectors? I already have a big ball of sisal rope out in the garage.
