Full Version: Sally/5 Year Old U2
Quaker Parrots Forum > For Pet Lovers > Avian Re-Homing > Needs New Home
StephieSue
Since I have ongoing health issues and will more than likely be having surgery in the next couple of months as well as moving I think it's best for Sally that I find her a new home. She needs more time out of the cage than I can give her. She also absolutely hates Marissa so it makes it a bit more difficult to let her out as much as she should be. There will be an rehoming fee but that can be discussed with the right home for her.

About Sally:

She is a 5 year old U2 that does pluck and barber quite a bit but I have seen some improvement with her sock buddy on her. She is a big cuddle bug, she would be happy to just sit with me all day long with a blanket if it was possible. She does have a ruptured air sac but no complications from that but will need to definately see an avian vet at least once a year to have it checked out. All bloodwork is within normal limits. She is missing one nail on one of her digits but it doesn't slow her down at all. She's a rambler, she does say pretty bird, bad bird, and does a great wolf whistle. The rest of the time when she's talking it's gibberish but quite cute. Sally is very unpredictable with people. I don't trust her with kids at all as she has gone after a 4 year old. She is also not very fond of other cockatoos, she absolutely was terrified of Mongo when he was still with us. She also gets pretty fidgety around Nemitz our Cag. She's used to the cats and pretty much just ignores them, not sure about dogs or other animals though. She will flock call if you are out of the room for too long. Sally is on a Zupreem Fruity Pellets/Brown's Tropical Delight diet. Fresh foods is really hit and miss with her but she'll usually eat it if you actually hold it for her.

What type of home I'm looking for:

I'd love to find her a home where someone is home during the day. Lots of out of cage time as well as one on one time with Sally. Must have bird experience, preferably with Cockatoos as she is a unpredictable U2. Along those lines must also be patient and be able to read a bird's body language b/c it can save alot of anxiety with you and for Sally. Sally will need to wear a sock buddy unless you can find other safe means to work on her barbering and plucking. Preferably no small children. All in all I just want Sally to be taken care of, I will not rehome her to a home where they have no idea what they are getting into with a U2. If you don't take her cage then I want to be assured she will have one of the similar size which is 6ft tall, 4 ft wide, and 3ft from front to back. If for any reason it doesn't work out then Sally will come back to me!

If it seems like I'm being picky I most definately am. Sally is more than a bird to me and I will not rehome her to just anyone!

This is a recent picture of Sally with her sock buddy on.

Good luck finding Sally the perfect home! If you can't find a good home for her, I know an AMAZING rescue in Schereville Indiana, probably only an hour from where you live that you may want to check out. They screen applicants carefully and would be a good choice if things get desperate.

Good luck!

With all of the changes going on in my life and the fact that things are so unstable right now I think it's in Sally's best interest to find her a home. I'm not looking to send her to a rescue where she will be rehomed again, the intention of me rehoming her is so that she can go to a stable forever home where she will be absolutely loved and spoiled. PM me for more info. Thanks

Hi hi,
I am sorry to hear that you have to rehome Sally. I was just going to ask you what other kind of history you have on sally? Was she a rehome or did you get her as a baby? How long have you had her? Are those the only medical issues you have had with her?

Have you thought about contacting a sanctuary that might be able to find you some suitable cockatoo homes in the area? Just a thought, they usually have some good resources.

Hi, I have re-homed one bird from a wonderful lady *Andie* from this board, and were looking to add another from her also. I have been intested in a U2 since snowball went home - if you go back though My posts you will see what happend in that.

So, depending on your adoption fee - I would love to talk to you further about adding her to our flock!! I absolutely LOVE too's!

I am very sorry that you will need to rehome your fid. I am 45 minutes south of you in Mattoon and I have extensive experience working with birds, but I do work a full-time job from 8-4pm Monday-Friday.

UPDATE:

For those of you that have inquired about Miss Sally first I want to thank you for your interest in taking my girl in. She has found a forever home and will be leaving it looks like on March 30th as of right now. Her new home will be with a member of this forum but I won't reveal that, the member can whenever they feel ready.

I'm glad things have worked out, though I am sorry you have to rehome Sally. At least you can take comfort in whom you've placed her with. smile.gif

not me this time - although I would have if I thought it would have been best for Sally. She was afraid of Mongo and he just wanted to be her boyfriend - so not a good situation for either of them.

I am currently full unless an emergecy situation comes up. I still have Katrina's budgies and my dad's cockatiel has become the newest permanent member of the flock - I have been "bird sitting" since mid October- Dad was only gone for about 2 weeks then and just never took him back. He finally decided Izzy was happier here.

Glad to hear Sally found a good home - now if an African Grey became available I may have to reconsider the "full house" status. LOL
