Buddy was our dog that was living out at my mom's. Buddy was actually a she but we found her when marissa was just learning to talk and it was something she could say pretty easy so it stuck. My ex husband was working one day when a customer brought in this cute lil black puppy that she had found around a construction site on a busy highway so the suckers that we were took her home and she loved it with us. When we moved we decided to leave her at my mom's where she could run and play freely as she wanted and that was fine with her. We also visited her and even after I divorced tony he always would go out to my mom's to visit her. Buddy was 14 years old and really showing her age the last couple of years to the point to where my mom had thought about putting her down b/c she was worried she was hurting too badly but Buddy kept going and kept fooling us all. Once this summer mom had called and said she didn't look so hot but I went out a week later and lemme tell ya that dog was fine. She got some scraps of food and took all of them and buried them in different places, then she would sit there and guard her buried treasure. Then she would guard us as well. If someone would walk or ride a bike by she would sit with her back to us, watch them go by and you could hear her lil growl showing them she was not to be messed with.

My mom went to Florida last weekend to see my grandpa. Well her final day there her contractor that was putting in hardwood floor called her to tell her that someone had left a note telling her that Buddy had gotten hit by a car and they had wrapped her up and took her to a vet not too far away. In their haste they forgot to mention what vet so my mother had to track down the vet. She finally found Buddy, she was still alive but would have to be housed for at least 2 1/2 months and there was a chance she would never walk again. So after talking with the vet at length they decided that at her age and with her other health problems it was best to put her out of her misery and let her run free. My mom isn't dealing with it very well, I think she is feeling alot of guilt for not being with Buddy at the end. We'll all miss Buddy very much.

Well dang it...I'm sorry Steph give Marissa a hug and tell your mom not to be too hard on herself. 14 is OLD for most any dog and she had a long a good life.

As unfortunate as it was at least she is no longer in pain and as you said free to run in the green pastures for eternity.

She knows you all loved her and now you have one more guardian angel looking over all of you.

Big Hugs Girl!
