Hi,

I've bought a few pakets of beads to make some toys out of. These beads are wooden and appear to be 'painted' maybe with some kind of varnish. They don't smell like chemicals or anything, but I wonder if they are safe to use with our bird. Does anybody know if these are safe? Or should I only be using beads that are plastic or plain wooden?

Thanks,

Emily

I would be very wary of using wood that's been varnished or painted with ANYTHING unless you know exactly what it is. It really should be plain wood beads. You can find them in many craft stores, and then you can soak them in kool aide or food coloring to spruce them up a bit!

You can use plastic ones too - I use pony beads all the time.
