Full Version: Three Parrots In Need Of New Home.
Quaker Parrots Forum > For Pet Lovers > Avian Re-Homing > Needs New Home
Cheryl Allen
I live in Charleston area of WV. I will only adopt out to people who can come to the house and get to know the bird they are adopting.

1 Quaker - Boo- the most gentle and loving quaker I have ever met. He has no medical or emotional issues.

2 Senegals, Paulie and Peanut.

I would like to be able to adopt each bird out seperately but would concider homing Boo and Paulie together.

Paulie is aggressive and hates men with a passion. He will need a woman who is not afriad to take a bit or 10 or 20 until he learns to trust you. I can instruct you on ways to NOT GET BIT at all. He loves affection while he is in the cage and the door is closed but once you open the cage door he gets aggressive and can jump you with out warning. I can teach you how to deal with that. He gets along a little with Boo but they must be supervised as Paulie will just attack suddenly and they will need to be seperated fast.

Boo is so gentle even my now 5 year old neice can hold him. She has been holding Boo since she was a baby.

Peanut is handicapped but is the most lovable parrot in the world. He / She is a clown and loves to do acrobatics in your lap. She loves to cuddle up under your chin. She is not Good with children or other animals and will attack children and other animals. She has splayed legs and needs special perches and equipment which I will provide.

You will have to provide cages for each bird.

If interested PM me.

I had to rehome some of mine for the same reason and I hope you get as lucky as I did and someone from the forum comes along for you.Wishing you the best of luck.

Sorry that it has finally come to having to rehome the last of them. Im sure you know what is best and when you can no longer take care of them. I wish I were closer. What are ya gonna do with their cages?I have some extras that i need to do something with. Maybe a bird will light on my shoulder some day. And when it does I will have a cage to put it in. Best of luck.

This is so very very hard on me, however I am also thinking about the birds and the fact that I now live in my bedroom 99% of the day. I do not think this is fair to the birds at all. The little I come out of my room, is when I ride my scooter to see the birds and spend what time I can with them. Peanut doesn't like riding in the basket by the way, where as Boo enjoys the ride. Paulie won't come out to try it.

Anyone that can help by taking in one or more of these guys please feel free to PM me.

Cheryl I am so sorry that you have to do this I know how much you love your fids and I hope you find the best possible homes for all 3. If I was closer I would be there in a heartbeat to help but sadly I am just too far away. Good Luck!

Come on forum members...Isn't there someone out there that is willing to give these birds a loving home.....I think Cheryl would like to resolve this soon as possible so the birds will be able to get the continued out of cage time they were use to before Cheryl's sickness..
I do hope someone will be able to help..... smile.gif

I won't be able to come back through Charleston until April. If you still need help then, I'll see what I can do for you.

I would love to help but, i also am too far away.
Come on i am sure there is some one close to help with this,
Cheryl, am so sorry you have to do this, I know you love your fids, praying you get this resolved soon

Would you be interested in Peanut my senegal with special needs? I would be willing to hold her until then if you would be. I would have to base it on how well she interacted with you. Just know she doesn't like other pets, or kids and as long as you keep kids and other pets away from her they can be in the same room. You just have to have a set up where she can not get to them. She was raised living outside her flight cage until we put her into the huge double cages she is in now. She will not come with a cage but I will make sure she has all of her special needs perches, toys, and everything she needs to be happy.

Cheryl

(We are concidering keeping Paulie because of his aggression issues and I am the only one that can handle him)

I've thought about Boo but I just don't know. It's so soon and my heart still feels so very numb. I am within driving distance though. Can you tell me more about him or post a pic?
Way2Bizzy
I would SOOOO love to have Boo-- I have been trying all week to work out a way to get up there, but I'm south of Charlotte, so it would be probably 10 hrs round-trip plus time there meeting with you and I'm just not able to work that out right now. I'm still trying though!!

I'm sure Cheryl will be back to respond but just want to tell you a little about Boo....She told me he is the sweetest one she has...He is so cuddly and loves to be held...I'm sure Cheryl will be able to give you more detail...I'll see if I can raise her by e-mail....

Pictures: One is of Paulie and Boo!

Then there are several of Peanut. (Peanut is handicapped so she is easy to tell apart from Paulie)

There is One of Paulie alone being his usual clown self. (upside down with tissue in claws)

Then there is Boo when he was parrot of the week. (pet of the week)

Paulie upside down letting me love on him. (See how sweet he can be?)

I do wish I could help. But there is too much distance beteen us. Im sure shipping isnt an option and i cant come to back home visits to get acquainted first . I do hope you find someone soon.
Way2Bizzy
Thanks for the pics- what a wonderful little group of fids you have! I wish I had the appropriate facilities for all of them! Peanut is quite a character smile.gif

Cheryl, if I was younger I know I would take Paulie the senegal....They have the sweetest disposition..My sister has one, and he is so sweet.....
And look and Mr. Boo---I remember that picture....that was a good one....
There is someone out there I'm sure that will take these babies and give them a good home......
kate
I dont know who all may be closer. Maybe someone who is will find a way. If I were closer i would take either ,or, or even both, Paulie and Boo. I havent had any eperience with a handicapped bird. But im sure its not that hard. So even peanut would not be out of the question. Shoot, I might would even take all 3. But, it doesnt seem feasible to get them here. Best of luck. smile.gif

I'm sorry I missed this thread. I don't often visit the rehome section.

Cheryl, I'm so sorry you've been forced into doing this. I know how much you love your guys. I've always enjoyed your stories on Paulie and Peanut. I can always relate having a Sennie myself.

I am pleased that you've managed to find a couple of members to take care of the little monsters. That should make it easier for you.

My best to all involved and I continue to send my hope that you get better soon Cheryl.

I am brand new to this site, but I am in virginia, I have a quaker already, Patrick, he runs the house, or at least he tells us what to do all the time, HA! I would love to consider bringing Boo into our family, I have a wonderful husband and three children, who all adore Patrick.

I am sure that Charleston is at least three hours away though, need to Mapquest it.

Cheryl, I have sent you a Private Message with a little more info, but I didn't know which you would see first.

Let me know if Boo is still available, and I will see what I can work out on my end!

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Cheryl-

Unfortunately I'm on the other side of the country here, but have you tried posting on any Senegal lists, like the African Parrot Society Poicephalus and Senegal lists? Handicapped birds often find good homes that way in particular.

Plus there are a number of Poicephalus, special needs and second-hand bird groups on Yahoo. I haven't been on those lists lately or I'd suggest certain ones. I just love those Pois though, and in particular once was looking for a special needs Senegal or jardines on the APS listserve...but I wound up with a special needs, curved-spine baby Grey from a Poi breeder instead! Sylvain has been the best bird, those sorts of birds are so worth it and are often the sweetest and most tolerant souls.

One of my rescued Eclectus, Donald, is alternately aggressive and sweet like Boo, but once you learn his moods that sort of thing is totally managable. I am very glad I was able to give him a permanent home here too. He's an amazing guy and went through 3 homes before he was 4 years old due to his aggression and volume.
