Full Version: I Lost My Wasabi Today
For those of you that remember me posting here, I lost my beloved Wasabi today. Her picture is on the birthday postcards that go out for the forum. I don't know how it all happened except that I came home from work today to find a tragic disaster scene on my couch. It involves a rescue dog I recently took in. I don't know how in the world Wasabi got out. You can put the pieces together. All I know right now is that I am in so much pain. I never in a million years expected this to happen and I am grieving so badly.

Oh Tammy!!!! I am so sorry....my heart is breaking for you as I have had it happen and its such a shock and horror to find. I share your tears and am sending big, big hugs.

I am so sick with grief. I can't stop thinking about what a tragic way my baby left this world. She was so very sweet, loving, and innocent. How can I deal with this and turn it around positively??
Tammy, I am so very sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine what must be going through your mind right now. The only thing I can suggest is to hold on to the good memories that you have of her. Know that she was truly blessed to have touched your life and vice versa.

OH NO! I am so sorry! What a terrible shock. I hate that you had to find it that way. I pray that God will soon ease your pain.

OMG ....My heart is breaking at the pain you must be feeling ...I have just recieved one of the Birthday cards with your sweetie on it too...What a terrible terrible thing to have happen...I wish works could help but I know they don`t ...Please know there are others that know the pain your going through, sending ((HUGS)) from across the miles....RIP Wasabi fly free ....

It is so hard this morning not hearing her little chirps and words and I can't bare to look at her empty cage. But, thank you all for the comforting words and helping me through this. I pray that these images will soon stop flashing through my mind. Hug your sweeties for me and treasure every moment with them.

Oh no!! I am soooo sorry!! My heart is breaking with yours! Such a tragic thing to happen. Words can never make it go away, but know the forum is hurting right along with you, especially those who have one of the cards with little Wasabi on the cover! Many hugs and tears go with you.

I know I have posted this before, I keep it in a frame in my bird room and it has helped me through some of my losses:
Lend Me A Bird
"I will lend to you for a while, a bird", God said.
For you to love him while he lives and to mourn for him when he is dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe for two or three.
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you and should his stay be brief,

I cannot promise that he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below I want this bird to learn.
I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true.
And from the folks that crowd life's land, I have chosen you.

Nor hate me when I come to take my lovely bird again?
I fancied that I heard them say, "Dear Lord, thy will be done,
for all the joys this bird will bring, the risk of grief we'll run."

I to had to deal with that situation about 6 months ago. When we were not home somehow my boston terrier mix, jumped the gate into our bird room. The cages are up high, but somehow managed to knock one down. He knoced over one of my parakeets cages. The bird must have died instantly, my dog must have thought it was a toy, because the bird was not harmed in any way besides some feathers pulled out. I think it had a heart attack I was so angry at my dog, but you have to remember that a dog is a dog. They are animals. They have animal instinct, they don't no any better. In my time of greif I though about how many good years I had given that bird, and it helped me pull through. Just think of how much love you showed that bird, and your good times. You will see Wasabi again one day at the rain bow bridge. My prayers and thoughts are with you & your family.~Alicia

Thank you all so much for the kind words of support. I loved the poem and truly appreciate knowing you all understand my pain and it helps to know that there are others who have gone through this as well. I am trying my best to focus on the good times.
I just never thought something like this would happen. I don't know what to tell my students at school. I took Wasabi with me to school often. Their hearts will be broken as my own kids are. I am just lost in a fog right now. Again, thank you all so very much!

Last night was horrible for me. I was feeling so angry. I found out how she got out and I've been trying to not have hard feelings toward my husband. I moved her cage to the garage because it was haunting me. I've not been able to sleep well and I feel drained from crying and being nauseated.

I'm so sorry you are going thru this. Just remember we all make mistakes, it's only human. I've myself have wondered how I could not remember to either lock Bubba's doors or even close them when I've left. Not sure what happened with Wasabi - but unfortunately, we do have these moments, it's just a shame that yours ended in tragedy - I'm so sorry for your pain, wish I could make it better. We here are so so incredibly sorry to hear about Wasabi. Just think of what an incredible life she was given no matter the length. She knew she was loved and she was one lucky little fid to have such a wonderful life with you and your family. She had a whole lifetime of love and kindness.
I had a ferret years ago that was quite sick- it was imperative that he always have access to his special food and water (even more so than a healthy animal). One day I left for work and left his door unlatched. The fun-loving little turkey escaped out onto the floor and couldn't get back into his cage. When my husband got home from work, he found Frito in a very bad state. We ended up having to put him down and it took a long time for me to forgive myself. But he knew he was loved, he had a wonderful home and a great life. That's what got me thru the whole ordeal.
