I tell you, this is absolutely the hardest thing I have ever gone through. I lost my Raja bird
and just about my mind. We don't have an avian vet here. So my vet was working with an avian specialist, I still don't know exactly what happened to him. Just that he drank lots and lots of water at the end and and had watery poop. He had been on Baytril for the last ten days. I actually thought he was getting better so I was shocked yesterday morning when I went in and found him dying at the bottom of his cage yesterday morning. I held him and and gave him kisses as he passed. I loved this bird with all my heart. I hand fed him and loved him ever since he was 12 days old. I know I should have done more. I will be kicking myself a long time for not driving him somewhere that did have an avian vet. He was three years, one month and twenty days old. Still just a baby.
I'm sorry Raja that I didn't do more for you.

I am having a necropsy done, hopefully I will know more soon.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know very well what you are going through and how bad it hurts to breath each time you think of your baby. Big hugs to you and I know your baby is in a very great place and if god is as kind and loveing as I beleve he is, you will see your baby again. I hope that's how it gos anyway. I hang on to that when the pain gets to hard to hold. I let go and beleve that each experence I've had gave me something to grow on.

Oh Kathy what a blow for me to read this!!! He sure was your baby with all youve written about him on your blog! You were so helpful to me when I was asking about Suns...."everyone should have a Sun" you always said. Oh Im so upset to hear youve lost him Kathy. What a shame. My hearts so with you right now. Oh Kathy! I am so very sorry to hear of Raja's death. What a blow for you! I know how much you loved him and how you would have done anything for him! He is flying free now and watching over you - waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge.

Well he was being treated for Metal poison and it in fact was metal poison. His cage has no rust on it and I don't have a clue how he got a hold of anything metal but he was a chewer. Things are getting better but still I can't look at his cage.

Metal poisoning is the first think my vet worry`s about ..ME TOO as 2 of my fids Jam and JJ died as a reult ..not of the direct result metal poisoning but Jam while undergoing a procedure on the operating table..and JJ as a secondary illness he was too weak to overcome after dealing with the metal poisoning..
Metal poisoning needs fast treatment daily injections to help drag the toxins fromm the body ..Its my greatest fear ..
Luckily my 2 boys now are not great chewers except for wood and paper..I hope I never need to deal with metal poisoning again it sends such fear through me its a killer..
I said to my vet my birds are happy and free (not in a cage except to sleep ) and if they get sick because I let them roam free (is as safe a area I can provide) I would never forgive myself..He said your birds are happy and you give them a wonderful life , he like me believes in flighted out of cage birds as much as and when possible(we all know its not always possible and make no critisism of those that can`t do as I do)..He said Life is dangerous for everyone/birds/animals/people if birds were stuck in a cage alone sad and unhappy that is just as bad,what sort of life is that?? in the wild birds live in constant dangers ,thats life we all do the best we can and as long as we know we do the best and take precautions as much as we can (look after our fids clean water fresh foods pellets and love daily) we should not feel guilty about somethings/accidents missadventures we just can`t prevent..
My vet, I think is a wise man and loves all animals has a heart of gold , he cried with us when we said goodbye to JJ we all fought so hard for my big red boy..Life is sometimes very unfair and sad ..
Hoping you will feel better soon , you did all you could and your little Raja knew you loved him I am sure...(((HUGS))) .......
