Angel came here because he wasn't a good fit at the bird store I used to work at, as a consignment bird. The shop had purchased him and he was too much of a liability to keep there until he sold. I have him at my house currently and he's been with me since January, if i remember right. He knows his name and uses it often to refer to himself, so changing it is out of the question. He is VERY loud. I cannot impress that enough, VERY VERY LOUD. I believe that is one reason he was sold in the first place. I do know too much about his prior life, other than he has been "rescued" a couple of times. I do know he was used as a "Good Citizen" bird at the schools for the children, but something happened along the way and he is now a bit agressive, and VERY VERY vocal. Part due to the season, being a hormonal male, the other being a too...but he will get going and scream his little heart out for hours if he feels the need.
He has gotten better since coming here, but he's not exactly where I'd like him to be yet. I just moved him out to the living room along with all the other birds (since I will be moving back into the bird room and taking on a roomy). He did really well until this evening, he just went off for a little over a half hour. We'll see how sensitive he is during the night with the changes, and the fact that I work 11p-3 am, if he is ok with me coming through the room so late.
Angel is a "barber", he chews at his freathers and is chewed to the down. He was down to the skin when I brough him home, but has more than when he got here.
What kind a home does he need? A very understanding and patient one, with out small children, or men who want to mess with him. He does not like either much at all, he prefers women. A house, not an apartment! LOTS OF WOOD TO CHEW, he broke 2 bars off my Cal cage
Prerequisites for Adopting Angel:
An adult, living in a single family home. Prior large bird experience. NO SMALL CHILDREN, as he gets over stimulated and tries to bite them. He gets over stimulated quickly, so everyone in the home must be aware that they may/will get bit and it will hurt and bleed.
I would like to place him ASAP, due to my situation changing, I don't want to disrupt the progress that I have made with him. How is he for me? Most of the time very sweet and playful. He has taken a romatic interest in me, and it is not tolerated. So when he attempts to feed me or mate, he goes back in his house. He pushes his boundaries quite a bit, to see what he can get away with. He has not bitten me yet (knock on wood) so far so good. Axel will not even go near him, so I haven't been able to work on the men thing. He does ok with Cash (my U2) and other birds, he doesn't seem to have any issues with greys, quakers, amazons or macaws (though caiques are a bit too pushy for him).
There is a small adoption fee, and housing requirements. He needs a LARGE cage minimum of 28 x 30 x 64, preferably NEW, and toys. I will ship him to the right home, with the adoptive home paying freight, crate and fuel shipping out of SEA. His adoption fee is the cage and toys. A receipt for the cage and toys will need to be faxed to me, with a picture of the cage with the toys in it, or if it's a "local" adoption I will inspect the cage and toys myself. If it is a long distance placement, you will have to listen to Angel via the telephone to understand the noise factor. The stipulations after delivery is, he remains in possesion of Andie's Ark for 1 year. After one year, the obligations to return him to Andie's Ark are fulfilled. Though if something should happen past the 1 year agreement, Andie's Ark is more than happy to take him back. If it doesn't work out with in the 1 year, he is shipped back to Andie's Ark at the adoptive parront's expense, no other rescues or homes.
What does Angel eat? EVERYTHING...he's not too picky! Currently he eats zupreem natural, a local seed company parrot mix, and his people goodies, fruits and veggies.
If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask me! I know I'm missing a ton of info I want to post, but I'm racing against the clock to get to work on time
