Okay...

So, Tuffy, my 15 year old dsh cat is, I think, completely losing it.

Last night, I'm sleeping. Really sleeping. Four o'clock in the morning, in the middle of a dream sleeping. Suddenly, Tuffy grabs my head between his paws, claws extended, and BITES the top of my head. I screamed, Tuffy jumped off and ran away.

I THINK he saw another cat outside, because when that has happened in the past he sometimes attacks Grady, to show how "dominant" he is rolleyes.gif Still, he scared me a bit. Didn't hurt me, just scared me.

On top of this, he's been spraying lately and I've tried everything. He has his own, oft cleaned, litter box. I've tried Feliway. He just sprays. I was POSITIVE it was behavioral because he has done it RIGHT in front of me, staring at me, so I decided to get a cat playpen to keep him when I'm gone and at night, because that's when he does most of it. Well, before I went to that extreme... I wanted to take him to the vet just to make SURE he wasn't sick. I didn't want him to feel like he was being punished, when really he was sick.

Well, we went today, and to my total surprise, he DID have a urinary tract infection. I felt so bad! I gave him cuddles, bought him some kitty treats for after meds, and I get him home...

THE FIRST THING HE DOES IS PISS ON THE WALL, STARING RIGHT AT BILL AND I.

I know he's sick, but forgive me for also thinking he's an @ss.

We're going to do the meds AND the playpen and then, after the spraying is under control, the habit is broken, and everything is totally clean, we'll see if he can handle total freedom again. What a jerk!

Here he is looking surly:

Here he is passed out from drinking extra water for extra spraying:

Oh dear, that's not funny is it? Is it? ohmy.gif WELL, IS IT? tongue.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif Sorry, I just can't keep from laughing!
I do hope he is feeling better soon and stops watering the walls. If your walls start to grow it might cause structural problem with your house. cool.gif

He's going in the playpen for the first time tonight... I hope he doesn't hate me TOO much. Then tomorrow I'm cleaning the ENTIRE carpet, and marking all the areas I find where he has sprayed so I can clean them daily for a week.

I sure hope this stops it.

What is it with 15 yr old cats!!! We have been dealing with our cat Kimmy for about 9 months now. In September she started drinking excessively and urinating everywhere!!!! We ran every test possible - blood, urine, diabetes tests, ect. 100's of $$$$ too! Finally, we did an ultrasound and she had one kidney that was 2-3x bigger than the other. Likely, it was not polycystic kidney disease. She was on steroids and antibiotic for weeks. Another ultrasound sounded that everything was fine and another round of blood and urine tests came back normal. So everything was fine...... except that Kimmy continued to use the whole house as her litter box - for both # 1 and #2. So we did another round of tests and ultrasounds - everything is still fine. So we determined that it was behavioral. So we put her on meds - Amitriptyline. My vet calls it cat prozac. Well, it worked for several months and now were back to peeing everywhere. I am so mad at her because I know that its just her being a jerk. We keep every door in the house closed and nothing can be on the floor (shoe, magazine, dog toy, ect) or she will go on it. So I feel your pain!

It's so frustrating!

And I know he's been a good kitty for fifteen years, so I'm willing to work with him, but it makes me crazy. I'll let you know if the cat playpen works.

Yeah, I love Kimmy very much - she just makes it very hard!!!!! When she is having and exceptionally pissy mood, she goes in the laundry room since its tile and I can just mop it up. The turds are easy, tissue and down the toliet - but it is not pleasant to find them with your bare feet in the morning! We've even added more litter boxes, in case it was laziness - this way she is never more than a room away from a litter box. When this all first started, her favorite place to go was on our couches. That has at least changed and now her favorites are anything that belongs to Wrigley, our cocker spaniel. I have given up on giving him pet beds to sleep on since they are too hard to clean. Now I just fold up big comforters because at least they can go in the wash. I wish you luck with your friend!
