We had vet appointment for 3 set of shots. 7 in one and Rabbies. Pooh bear puked all the way home. Has the runs to boot and the purse carrier wreaked all the way home. We made a stop and cleaned it all up the best we could. And once again puking and poohing. Called the Vet they had me give him 1/4 teaspoon Kaopectate and 1/4 teaspoon Benydrill. The benydrill is to help calm him as he is panting and just spazing out.
He is resting comfortably between my legs, wrapped in a blanket laying on my squishy pillow, off in dream land-just where I might go too.
It was a heck of a day. Had to bath him as soon as we got in the door.

Awwww, poor baby. Sounds like you both need some rest after that.

Poor thing. That sounds so much like my hubbys pooch she is so petrified when we take to the vets. she needs to be tranked so that its not such a trauma for her. once long ago she had an experience at the vets and im assuming thatleft a memory to her for a long time.

We are guessing that between nerves and possibly car sickness he puked and had the runs.
He is now pretty lathargic but the Vet said this is normal for the first 24 hours, however if you can't get get their attention and keep it, he doesn't eat, potty or do the normal dog things bring him back. So far he has played a little with me, some with son, and some with sassy but not more then a minute or two then back to sleep. Nothing to eat yet, so I am adding karo syrup to the water since he is a small breed and I don't want him to go into hypoglycemic shock. He hasn't drank much water though. We may have to go get the paste for him, if this continues much longer.

Cheryl keep a close eye on him because some smaller breeds can have severe reactions to some of the shots.
It could very well be nerves but just keep a close eye on him and if he has the runs for more than 24 hours get him back to the vet.
Also remember that Karo syrup is a natural laxitive so becareful about giving him too much.

I second this on keeping a close eye.. my mom has a lil shi zsu that since she was a pup would get similar reactions and just be overall sick for the next few days.. the vet finally recomended that they split the shot dosages.. so now for her yearly shots she does half a dose one week and the week later does the second with no prob.. it seems to be more troublesome for smaller dogs cause our lab never had any prob other then being a tad sleepy..

Poor Pooh Bear!

And I'll third Connie's comment! Gaston (our Coton) had a reaction last year to one of his shots, he was lethargic and then the next morning his face blew up so the point that his eyes were almost closed.

We rushed him back to the vet and he got more shots/steriods to help with the reaction and now he doesn't get the Lepto shot anymore.

Thankfully the drug company paid for that vet visit and all the medication/shots since it was their fault...
Hopefully he's okay and he was just stressed, but it isn't uncommon for little dogs to get reactions.

Thanks, I was going to say that I thought it was the Lepto that generally causes the dogs to have reactions.
But I was having a CRS moment... Thanks CM...
I have to say though that is fairly common for them to be a little lethargic, but keep track of their breathing and if they have any redness or swelling around the injection site or continued diahrea or vomitting...

I was warned about small dogs long ago when I got my first dog as an adult. I have had nothing but small dogs. However I have never had one as small as Pooh Bear (Bear) is. He is 3.14 ounces now. He is doing much better now and has eaten and had a normal stool- slightly constipated actually. He is not letting Sassy anywhere near me except when we are all playing. When Bear is cuddled up next to me if Sassy tries to get between us, Bear jumps up like a mad man and goes after Sassy like there will be no sunrise in the morning if Sassy dare get near me. I have put Bear into submission but I think unless Sassy puts him in his place it won't help much. I however know the size difference and am not about to let Sassy do any such thing. So with that said hopefully things will be better once Bear is 100% himself.
Thank you all for your input! And concern, I have been so worried!
