Hello! I recently 'rescued' a 5 year old quaker parrot from someone I knew. They gave him to me, telling me he was tame, healthy, and a good pet. I already had a quaker, so I thought, 'whats one more?'. Well, I recieved the bird in horrible conditions. He had been fed an all-seed diet, underweight, was terrified of humans, and had overgrown nails and wings. I got his weight up, and his nails and wings are clipped. He is a real sweetheart, but due to other obligations (and the fact that I have 3 other birds), I'm unable to give him the attention and time he deserves in order to tame him. He's not aggressive and will not bite, but he is very afraid of people. I've been keeping him in a medium-traffic room in the house, so he's been getting used to people.

Like i said, its just an unfortunate situation. He's healthy (aside from the still overgrown nails I've been trying to trim down) vocal, and would make a great pet for anyone willing to put some time into him.

'Circus' has a great personality, and I'm willing to give his cage, toys, and eveything else to a somewhat experienced bird owner. He is not for beginners.
I'm willing to work out a very cheap rehoming fee and also able to send pictures. Please contact me if you're interested.

I saw your ad on Craigslist for Circus and felt bad for him I think a lot of his issues could be worked out if you moved him up to a higher level as in top bird status and let him build his confidence up. I have read a lot of parrot behavior books and with shy birds it's good to stop with the trimming of their wings and let their feathers grow back in and do a lot of towel play with him. Some cautious or phobic or shy birds benifit a whole lot from having places to hide which you could do by covering half of its cage or even give him a box to hide in. Since you don't know a whole lot of his past you don't know what kinda trama he had in those 5 years that have effected him.

I dunno if you found a home for him or not but I'm hoping for the best for him. I remember seeing the ad and it stayed in my thoughts.
