I'm sure you've all guessed from where i'm posting that it is'nt good news,i know i don't post very often but i've had such help and advice from you guys that i wanted to let you know that Milo died on Saturday night.Yes it was very sudden and hubby and i still can't quite believe it.We think he may of had a stroke,is that possible with birds?He'd been talking and screeching on and off all day as per usual then at about quarter to eleven i heard a noise and went and looked and he was on his cage floor looking really distressed.Jason got him out and held him in a towel and we both stroked him and he seemed to calm but he had no movement at all in his legs and his neck was really twisted into his body.Anyway we settled him in a box on his cage floor with some cosy bed in to keep him warm while i went to call the vets for advice but i was just about to dial when jason said that Milo had gone.To say we are shocked is an understatement it was so quick and sudden and we can't believe he's gone,the house is so quaker quiet.
For anyone who does'nt know about Milo he came to live with us after we got him from a rescue centre in February last year,he had a badly deformed neck from being in a cage too small but within days with us he had us smitten.His neck straightened out over the months and you could barely tell he'd had a problem,he was a typical quaker,as sweet as sugar when he felt like it and he was getting a really good talker.Originally i wanted him and hubby went along with it but Milo adored Jason and would nuzzle him and purr away at him so Jason fell in love with him as much as i did.We're just glad that even though we had him only fifteen months at least he spent those months with love,care and attention,playing,eating well and doing what quakers should.
At the moment we have'nt had the 'should we get another' conversation,i think we both feel the same way and i'm sure we will at some stage but not yet,i think we need time to get over the shock.I will still pop onto the forum to read about your quakers antics,

So Sorry to hear about Milo. My heart goes out to you and your husband. Losing a pet is never easy. You may not have had him for long but the time you had you gave him lots of love and I'm sure he knew you loved him. Give yourself time to grieve and then think about the possibilities of adopting again.

I am so sorry to hear about Milo. I called my vet immediately and asked him if that was possible. He said yes it was. I don't know if that is what happened but I read your post to him and he said yes indeed it is possible. I know that probably doesn't help you or Jason. I lost my Gurk almost 3 months ago. We still haven't gotten over his loss. I'm sure we never will. I still cry a great deal. If there is anything I can do please feel free to pm anytime. Again I am very sorry for your loss. I'm so very sorry to hear about Milo. I know exactly how attached we become to them and they become to us.

One pet will never take the place of another, but when we lose one here, we get another one ASAP because it eases some of the pain as the new one makes us smile again. Some people do that and some prefer to grieve for a while. We believe our pets wouldn't want us to grieve for long, so we just go on and start to fill the hole that;s left in our hearts.

I do wish there were something we could do to ease your pain, but Only God owns that miracle and will use it in His own time.

Oh Gosh! I am so very sorry! As much as it hurts please remember the wonderful, loving and happy life you gave him while he was with you. He could have had a injury previously to head or something that caused it. And please do stay with us and continue to join in. Sometimes talking about it is the best way to grieve and let go. Oh, Sara, how sad for you both to lose your little treasure so suddenly! I hate to think what he suffered before he came to you. Perhaps he had nerve damage due to his awful injury, or a clot. Poor little baby. Thank goodness he had you both with him and he knew he was loved - finally, as he should be. You did wonderful for him and that eased his passing.

Thank you so much for all your kind words,it helps knowing other people who loves quakers as much as we do.Most people who visit us just thought Milo was a screechy thing and did'nt understand he was just joining in with the conversation.It sure is quiet here now,it's still seems strange without him but last night was the first night that i did'nt almost say goodnight to him as i was going to bed.

Sara, At times of loss, words are difficult. I want to extend comfort to you and Jason who has lost a beloved friend and companion. I'm so sorry. Milo is a part of so many happy memories - I'm saddened to hear of your loss. I know how much you both will miss your beloved Milo. I know Milo had a happy life because of your love and care Sara and Jason!

I know Milo fought his illness with courage and dignity and now has found peace. Thank you for bringing him into your home and giving him a wonderful 15 months!

It's hard, I know. When Cozey passed I cried for days. I had to take her cage to the garage because every time I walked by it I couldn't help but hurt. It will pass, and you will always have sweet memories of the time you had with him. You're in my thoughts.

i had a QP that passed away so suddenly and we didn't have him for very long. i cried for days and i still miss him

I too lost my QP named, ironically, Milo. I lost him three weeks ago and was completely devastated. I know what you mean about the house being so quiet. I have rescued another QP but he will never be my Milo. Hopefully this little guy will start talking soon (he is 2 but he was abused) so that my house sounds like my home again. I wish you all the luck.

So sorry to hear about Milo. Losing a pet is never easy. Its so nice people like you and your husband are around though to give him the love he needed even for only a short while.
I just adopted a QP named Kiwi and am so attached to him already. I worry about him just as if he were one of my kids. My biggest fear is to find him sick or worse..
Give yourself time to grieve but don't miss out on all the other sweet little babys that need love that you seem to have lots of!

I'm so sorry to hear about your Milo, my lovebird died very suddenly like yours, just as we got to the vet's office.I have pictures of her on my desk and that helps, but it was a while before I could look at them without crying. I hope you feel better soon,
