Due to my blog and articles about life in Celebration, FL, I was interviewed for a Current TV piece. It's now showing on cable and is also available online: http://current.com/items/88972930_living_in_a_bubble

Poor Truman didn't get into the video, although you can see his cage in the background of the foyer shots.

Fascinating! That's really fantastic. "Creepy" is only a reaction to people who are used to being disconnected. I live in a small town dominated by "old blood" and it is hard to break into and to ride the suspicion. I like a place where everything is fresh with new ideas and modern values. I guess it would depend how the community welcomes and excepts new people. Sometimes I think when there is an external interest point, like Disneyland, in this case, it gives people less interest in getting bogged down in incestuous gossip and suspicion. It sounds nice.

I did see Truman's cage!

That was so neat. A very nice story on a beautiful place.
Thanks for sharing!!! I saw Truman's cage too.

Seaside Florida is a place I'd love to live. It is "planted" there too and the tiny "Truman" house is there.

I live most of the time, in a town so small, it doesn't even have a post office, a traffic light, a convenience store, grocery store or gas station. It has stop signs, but they don't work!
Actually I live in half a town. The other half of the town is in another state. Everything is in that side of town and the population for BOTH towns together is only 3,500. It was not hard to mix in here as the people are so friendly, but I was raised in Alabama and spend a large portion of my time there and in Destin/Fort Walton Beach, so I am not here all the time. Maybe that's why we get along so well here! laugh.gif

Dark Angel

I was a little bit concerned about that when we moved here. I had heard that people who had been here from the beginning weren't too accepting of the newbies, and since we were coming in on the low end of the food chain (tiny triplex among huge estate homes), I wondering if that would be a problem too. I was amazed to discover that most people warmly welcome others here, and I've made some of my best friends here in town. Yes, we do have some grumps and snobs, but I barely notice because the majority are great. To give you an idea, after the New Orleans hurricane, a couple was staying here with friends, and their marriage had to be postponed because they had lost everything. The town banded together and put together a full-blown wedding, complete with honeymoon at the Grand Floridian, in literally days! That was so cool.

Hee hee, that just made me think of an irony. We get a lot of people in Celebration who confuse it with Seaside and think "The Truman Show" was filmed here. Truman is named after the character Truman Burbank (the reason is long and confusing and has to do with my cat), but I guess it's rather fitting that he lives in a famous FL planned community.

I really enjoyed that!!

Obviously you're one of those people who have the knack (i.e. talent) for painting a bigger picture with fewer words. I really got a feel for the character of the town from your description.
