I am, would love to watch another triple crown win. Been 30 years since Affirmed did it, its overdue. I remember when Secretariet won, don't remember what year, but was right after I got married in 1971. I will be watching for sure, and praying there won't be any more injuries.

I saw the article on the news Is it Big Brown who's jockey has a son who is going blind and they're hoping that He winds the race so his son can see it happen before he does go blind?

I'm afraid I haven't been keeping up on horse racing much anymore. With all the accidents that have happened recently it just makes me sad. So I don't watch much anymore.

yup. it's meant a TON to the family so far that his son has been able to see him at each race. I'm really excited. I've never had the privelage of actually watching a triple crown winner (I'm only 27). And fingers crossed no horses get hurt. It's hard to imagine that there is a contender now that might even have a chance of over taking him. he has won by such great lengths in all of his races so far i would think it would be slim to none.

Ah Big Brown didn't win! sad.gif It's been so long since there was a triple crown winner, we were hoping we could watch it happen again!
Number 6, Da'Tara won, he did run a good race! biggrin.gif

I wonder what happened to Big Brown, kind of odd how he slowed him down at the end. blink.gif huh.gif

I wanted BB to win, but it almost looked like his jockey held him back for no apparant reason. I hope not. I do hope he had the horse's well being in his heart like he said!
Secretariat won in 1973. Here's a picture of me with him taken in 1978.

Jockey said he felt BB was just out of gas and decided to pull him up rather than risk pushing him to the end when it was apparent he wasn't going to w/p/s ... didn't want to risk his health and well being ... I am GLAD the jockey cared enough for that! I'm sorry I didn't get to see a Triple Crown winner, but at least we'll see BB again, not another Barbaro story sad.gif

That is a GREAT pic of the great Secretariat, and the blonde standing next to him ain't bad either!! biggrin.gif

Big Brown didn't come out of the gate well, And Kent said he just didn't have it today...I hope it isn't broken bones, Maybe it was because of the heat... Just definitely hope its nothing serious.

DaTara did run a good race, Its sad that with all the hallabaluh with Big Brown, he didn't get the Immediate press that he would have had it not been a triple crown race.

Hated to see him lose but was soooo glad none got hurt. I had a sick feeling in my stomach the whole race.

glad he came out of it ok.. the jockey did a good thing pulling him up knowing it wasnt his horse's day rather then risk injury.. from what i saw it looked like Big Brown basically had a temper tanrum when the jockey moved him wide shortly after the start of the race, he was rocked hard and lost his momemtum and couldnt pull it together after that.. poor fella just wasnt his day to win sad.gif wait for antoher hopeful next year!

I hated to see him lose too, but if it was for a good reason, as someone said, at least he didn't become another case of Barbaro.

Thanks Jo, but the hair was white. It turned white when I was 19 ohmy.gif .

Von, I have my picture with a lot of famous horses...mostly world champion Tennessee Walking Horses and have one of tme riding the most famous TWH of the 60s and 70s, but this horse was the nicest thing for a TB I have ever see, No biting (almost all of them are biters) he was so sweet.

I hope we'll be seeing a lot of foals by Big Brown!!!!! He can't try for the 3 crown again because the horse has to be a 3 year old to run the Derby.

sad.gif well......I missed the race....waaaaaa!!! dry.gif I was camping last weekend and had HOPED to get away to a place with a TV so I could watch the race....yeah. that didn't happen!! smile.gif so I have alot to catch up on on the net to watch this race!! BB lost by the most strides in a Derby then any other horse in history for a triple crown potential winner.

I too feel bad for the poor winner!! He certainly didn't get the attention he deserved with all of the focus on BB.

Weeza!!!! blink.gif WOW!! How cool that you got to see him!! about the closest I'll get is with my Breyer laugh.gif biggrin.gif

He may have finished farthest behind but at least he finished and was able to walk off the track and hopefully race another day.

It says to me that this jockey, the trainer, and the owner care more about racing than just the Money. They actually care about the horse. I think it was an excellent choice for Kent to have made, As sad as it was that there wasn't a triple crown winner again this year.

I too felt bad for the winning horse and Jockey as they didn't get the true spotlight that they also deserved.
