I knew there was some baby birds in nest in the corner. So thats what I thought all the cats was looking at all morning. But then I thought there is noway they can see them under the ledge.

So I went to look and I found this lovely king snake looking at me. He was trying to get to the baby birds. He was way over 6ft and I was not so happy to see him wrapped around my wreath. This is the 5th one I have seen in the last week! Sorry the picture's are not the best!

Ray and I went out there and took care of the situation in hand!

King snakes will eat other snakes, including other king snakes.

You should find another king snake of equal size and put it near the original intruder. Soon each snake will eat the other and........ poof, no snake! smile.gif

Wow---Me don't like snakes of any kind....I'm glad you took care of situation...snakes seem to like birdies....
One time when I lived in the country, My son and I were standing in the house and he happened to look out the window and saw this hugh snake making its way up a pole to the bird house where there were little ones.....so we took care of that situation too....
Way to go girl, keep our little friends safe.....

Thanks for checking my thread out. They also eat all of our chicken eggs. We have a rattle snake in the barn. He killed one of my ducks that I raised from a baby 2 nights ago, but could not get it down so he left it and with the slime (SP) on it. I have seen him and I'm going to get him with a 12 gauge next time I see him. I called game and fish yesterday and they said I can kill him because we and are live stock are at risk.

Oh Angie! Those poor baby birds would have been lunch if your cats hadn't told you he was there. I have had 5 big ones in my house, one was curled up on the couch, against my hip asleep. How did I not know when he got there? He was not there when I sat down!

truman
Yikes! I am so glad you were able to save the baby birds!

I feel that snakes belong in the woods not in your home. Is there a no. to call if you catch one to come and get him to release in a forest etc. I believe every critter deserves a chance to survive. That's just me. I don't like to see creatures of any kind killed when you can catch them and put them in a safe place to live. I instill this in my day-care children almost every day.(We are animal rescuer's.)

I'm glad the birds are safe for now...I think I would have died if I'd looked outside and seen a snake...

I dont want snakes up around the house but i LIKE them. I never kill one unless necessary. I always head him off to the field or carry him to the barn. I would kill a venomous one if I encountered one and could safely do so. Ive never came face to face to one though and do not care to.

He was striking at us. He was very upset about coming down off the door. You should have heard the Mama bird she was very upset about the whole thing in the tree close by! And the babies were scared as well!

We called the game and fish to ask them if they would came out and help us with the western diamond back rattle snake we have and they said NO! They said we can kill him and his good eating. They are protected in Arkansas. But I guess if your life and your live stock is at risk you can kill them! sad.gif And we can not take a chance with it biting my husband because his health is not good and his nervous system is very weak!

They kill poison snakes, but they are to busy eating all my eggs and baby chicks and baby birds to do their job! dry.gif

They go for the easiest they can get, rule of nature. And while I don't like to kill other living creatures just for the heck of it. I believe in survival of the fittests...and hopefully that's ME...

Its true every creature has its place in the food chain. But some things just don't fit in with my place in the food chain and snakes are one of them! Now I've got the heebie jeebies just thinking about that sn-n-nake. UGH!
Sutton
Oh Dear Lord, I would have had a frigging heart attack! I don't know what I'd do if I saw a snake that size. I freak out if I see a little snake!
