Dr. Brown just called me with an update on what could be a possiblity with Harley's health....He spoke with Dr. Powers today and together they are first starting to check for liver disease which will be x-rays, blood work and possibily antibiotics....He wants me to bring Harley to his office one day this week and leave him for 1/2 day which I will be doing this week....And of course according what he finds will depend if we need to do further testing which will be a biopsy of the liver and that will mean a trip to Dr. Powers in Charlotte, N.C.....
So until then, that is all that I know and I have a doctor's appt. this week also myself...But I'll be sure to see that my baby gets to the vet if nothing else happens....
Thank you all for all the prayers and thoughts that you can give us at this time....

It's good that they're doing thorough tests to get to the bottom of it.
Just keep in mind that a lot of things can be the cause of unusual beak growth. They're most likely just trying to eliminate the worst first and hopefully work down the list from there.
Prayers and positive thoughts for Harley.

That's great that they are going to run tests etc. to figure everything out... hopefully it's just something minor and can be treated easily...
Big hugs and stay positive, keep us posted please!

Thanks everyone---I know there is no need to worry, but ---but----but----how do you avoid it....I can't understand this because Harley just never has eaten that many seed, in fact the food I got from the vet's office last week had some sunflower seed in it and he just picked around them, didn't bother at all...sooo, it has me wondering....How does it happen if this is what it is, and I have an inkling it is....
Sandi, if you will pm or e-mail me and let me know just what all ocurred with Kiwi, how long did this go on? How was it detected? And what was the treatment?.... or you can just tell me on here if you like.....Thanks a heap--------

Julie. there is no way we can keep from worrying about our little green babies. It's no where close to possible, but you could be stressing yourself over something that is easily fixable and Harley doesn't need to you waste any stress right now. Your own health doesn't need that either. So I say just take a deep breath and stay calm til you know for sure if you have anything to worry about.
I'm so glad that these Docs are so thorough that they are ready to start somewhere and check out everything one at a time until they KNOW Harley is OK.
My prayers are with you both.

Trying to tell a parront not to worry when something is amiss with their FID is like trying to tell the sun not to set. So I won't tell you not to worry. I do know one thing, though. When he gets back from his stay at the vet, Harley is going to have a lot of love and affection lavished on him.
Be strong. You are doing everything you can for Harley, even though he may not appreciate it at the time.

Hang in there Julie, it is so hard when a pet is sick because they can not tell you what is wrong or what hurts. We just went through it with one of our dachshunds. But after having her spleen removed she is doing better. Now we have our son that is having lung issues, 2 lungs that have collapsed in the last 3 months. When our loved ones are hurting it is so hard. Remember though, that God never gives us more than we can handle. These little guys are Gods gifts for us to love and care for and you are doing everything you can. I will keep you and Harley in my prayers. Julie

Horatios' Mom, you are so right...it just comes natural to worry but trying to think positive.....and Julie, thank you for your kind words also....yep, have to get the little man up somewhat earlier in the morning and be at the vet's office at 8:30....I guess leaving him will feel like I've deserted him.....

Yeah, leaving them at the vet is so hard, when we left our doxie Rylee I felt terrible. Our vet even let her come home a day earlier because he felt she would do better at home. As for my son I am staying the nights at the hospital with him. Too bad we can not do the same for our pets. But know that Harley will be in good hands at the vet and they can watch over him and care for him as needed. Best of luck tomorrow, keep us posted.

Now didn't you guys tell me not to worry---

and look at you all.....Bless you all....sorry I didn't mean to keep you all worried...just haven't felt like anything to get on and post nor read.....
Finally--yes finally, took the little man to vet at 8:00, left him (they said 1/2 day), it was more like a whole day....I was beginning to worry myself.....Anyway, I couldn't pick him up until 3:30, we finally got home at 4:30 yesterday and of course we had to snuggle for a long time....he was cooped up in his carrying cage all day long...when they brought him to me he didn't even chirp and hardly made a sound all the way home....And for those who don't know, like myself, they took 1cc blood from the juglar vein...poor baby....
They did the x-ray and found his liver to be slightly enlarged (will be taking milk thistle), and the blood work (complete panel) won't know anything on that for several days...So it is still a waiting game....
The vet's office was backed up yesterday and had only one vet in there where there is usually two....While I was holding Harley yesterday afternoon, he would close his eyes, I know he was sleepy; with all those dogs barking over there, I guess he wondered where in world I had taken him....So guess he was catching up on his sleep.....
Thank you all again---you are best....love you............
