Hi everyone! Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I am the soon-to-be owner of a QP, and the anticipation is killing me!
I recently lost my budgie, and the house has been so lonely without her presence. On Sunday, I went to my local bird store, ostensibly to look at their Parrotlets. They had a bunch of unweaned Quakers, though, and I fell in love. I picked one out and put a deposit down, so now I'm playing the waiting game until he/she's old enough to go home (should be June 27th). I've already picked out a name for my new baby...Piper.
Now I have to get busy setting up the cage and preparing everything. The 27th can't come soon enough!
hbrogan - Three weeks ago today, I had a wild 4 -5 week old QP drop into my life! He was blown out of his colony by an afternoon thunderstorm and managed to avoid cars and cats for three hours before I rescued him 60 yards from his nest in the street in front of my house completely unharmed!!! I had ZERO experience with these birds but with help here managed to grow him up! Since then I have had him DNA Feather Sex tested and it's a boy that we have named Dolce (=sweet in Italian). He has been a joy! You are in for a wonderful experience!
Here is a first picture after rescue:

My big boy Dolce yesterday:

Needs a wing clipping.... yesterday!
What I have noticed is that he can be easily frightened by my dog, sudden movement or even a new toy hung in his cage!!!
Just got this cage for him.... http://www.birdcages4less.com/page/B/PROD/...rd_Cages/PA5719
A friend told me the best cage for birds would be 5miles x 5miles square and 200 feet high
