People knows that i take in birds that no one wants no more ... This lady didnt want her tiel no more.. i went over to the ladies house and i knocked, and the lady answered the door with a cigarette in her hands all the way down still burning.. she showed me the bird and this little girl was beautiful a cinnamon color female cockatiel... She had no toys in the cage and the house stunk of cigarettes.. I took the bird and cage out of there .. I couldnt get out of there fast enough.. I took her home she was nine years old and she was very wide .. in the little time i had her, i worked with her ... she still ran from me when i tried to get her .. But i eventually got her in my hands and at first she bit hard but i kept working with her and she started riding on my shoulder and then came in the living room and sat down then she would get on back of the chair which was ok with me ... every time i picked her up i would kiss on her ... It took a long time (couple months) to get the smell of smoke off of her .. Well she lasted only a year and 3 months in my house .. i found her one day on the bottom of the cage... I really cried i started blaiming my self .. I called several people and they told me that i gave her 1 year and 3 months more without the filthy smoke .. Even still now i am thinking that i could of done more but people told me i did the best for the little girl... I really do miss her I just think there was more i could of done .. I am so heart broken .. Missy i am going to miss you very much...

You probably prolonged her life by quite a bit, She knows that you cared, and you did the best you could for her. Don't beat yourself up, You should feel very good about having given her a comfortable and healthy place to live for the last 15 months of her life.
My condolences to you for your loss. I know how you feel.

You did all you could for her and more. Sissy had the best year with you with no smoke to breath in. Don't blame yourself blame the cig. smoking from the previous home. I can't stand cig. smoke and will not allow it in my home. Sissy is smoke free and flying high over a rainbow.

Oh birdman....I am soooo sorry

Sissy is now flying high and free and THANKING you for taking her out of that stinky house she was in all those years (I can't even call it a home from your description

) You gave her a much cleaner, fresher home than she had ever known and I'll bet she loved on you once she got over her terror from her background.
((((HUGGZ))) to you sir for caring so much. May your heart heal soon.

I'm so sorry to hear that Birdman, but you gave her an extra year of the 'good' life. I can't believe people would smoke around their pets!!! I am glad I never started...and there is no smoking allowed in my place..
Big Hugs...
Carolyn:-)
