Let me start by saying...A trip to the vet is in order I know...they cant get me in until next week. Its friday what do you want them to do?

Today is the first signs of sickness and I'm hoping it was the new veggies I bought yesterday (greenbeans and red delicious apple..no seeds..were the two new ones they have never tried until yesterday). Today watery poop every time I turn my head and Spree is acting a little lathargic. Elliot is acting just fine despite the funny poop. Elliot did the same thing when he tried snap peas for the first time. Anyone else have trouble with peas or greenbeans?

Sorry, I don't have any input for you- mine have never had a problem with beans or apples. I sure hope there's nothing seriously wrong with your fids. Good luck!
Nancy and Bubba
Bubba loves green beans and apples but I do notice his poop is more watery after eating them, especially the apple. But I've always considered how much liquid they contain as he is ok when he is eating his pellets and other stuff. Hoping all is ok - keeping fingers crossed.

I dont know what it could be either? My QP and Sun love peas sepecially and green beans come in as second.

They do sometimes get the "runs" for a little while after eating something new, especially fruit and vegetables. I would just watch them closely today and see if the poops get more solid.

I agree, Fresh Green beans and Apple are very high in moisture, so they are bound ot have watery poop and the color might change a little too because of the color from the beans as well as the fruit if they ate the skin. Plus you know how your digestive tract acts when you have fresh foods you've never had before.

So I really don't think you have too much to worry about, but watch them closely, if it coesn't get back to normal in a day or so, a vet visit is definitely in order.

I'm sure you did this but make sure that you wash the fresh veggies and fruit extra well since you don't know what they've been treated with.

thanks everyone. Im really not worried about elliot as much as I am Spree. She is just so slow and nonvocal and tired looking. She slept on my sholder for 2 and a half hours earlier without a peep. usually she cant get comfy enough (exs. with elliot screaming for attention) to sleep like that. I thought maybe it was just nap time but its going on 8 hours now...not a peep or a movement. She did eat a little and is stepping up and drinking water. Sorry if im rambling but Im just worried.

Does anyone know anything about molting? She is starting to go through her first molt..could this effect her like this? I'm wondering if the pain of these new feathers is making her more tired and grogy?

I would call around and get spree into a vet and not wait for the long term appt. See if you can find a vet willing to take spree. The watery poops are not the main issue to be concerned about but the fact that spree seems lethargic is something more serious and should be seen asap. I am hoping someone in ohio sees this and gives you some leads on some other vets if you cant find one.

When Spree sleeps, does she sleep on one leg? If she's as lethargic as you say and sleeping on two legs, then it is serious and you MUST get her to a vet soon.

Don't forget that birds hide illness very well. It does not pay for a bird to look ill, even if it is, or it will be immediately targetted by any number of predators. So when a bird actually appears ill and starts to act that way, IT IS SERIOUS!

I'm with IMPy. Do NOT wait for an appointment next week. Spree may not make it that long!
Frankie's Mom
I absolutely concur about Spree being lethargic. Is Spree hanging her head, and do her eyes seem very heavy like it is an effort to keep them open? Is she eating her normal diet?

I just went through a VERY tough bout of Heavy Metal Toxicity with a quaker, and his being lethargic was the first sign. Something else to consider is an infection. I WOULD NOT wait to get Spree to a vet.

I sure hope spree will be ok ?? I will say a prayer for him or her .....

I think I would try to get her into a avian vet before next week. I'm sorry about your fids being sick. I know your so worried and thats all your thinking about right now!

Ok now you guys have me scared. Yes she is sleeping on one foot still. But..her eyes do seem heavy I quess and she doesnt seem to have her head perked high as usual. I will call in the morning until I find a vet. She did seem to be doing a little better this evening but they are so finicky. The metal thing worries me because she is a bird who likes to chew on bells and anything for that matter (although I do cut off all of the bells she is in contact with but there is still metal on her toys. ERR I hate not being able to read her little mind!

Morning update: Spree seems to be doing better today. She isnt acting lathargic like yesterday and her poop isnt as watery. I think I am going to hold off going to the vet unless she starts acting that way again. Thanks for the advice everyone!
QPdad
Aw, I'm so glad to see she's doing better!!

She might have been feeling under the weather because of the diarrhea. I know when Willie was so sick, shortly after he took his Pepto Bismol, he started feeling much better. (I don't mean that as a recommendation in case you need the runny poop as an indicator of something that needs to be checked out.)
