Click to view attachmentHello All! I have a 7 1/2 week old baby named coco. This is my first quaker and my say they are are absolutly wonderful. I got coco really young at about 2 weeks old and have been handfeeding since then. I am trying to start weaning my baby but he is on his own schedule. I have enjoyed the opportunity to see it grow so much over the past few weeks wub.gif . When I first got him ( not sure its a girl or boy but refer to him as a boy) he could barely lift his head. Now he is so active and all over the place rolleyes.gif . If anyone have any suggestions on how to better wean him please post. Currently he loves to eat apples, lettece, corn, suger free apple sauce with formula, and this white almond looking seed. He especially loves lettece. He still begs for his morning and late feeding. I would love to get him to eat pellets but he won't touch them. Any ideas on how to get him to start eating them. I tried to soak them in some suger free apple juice, he touched them once but then just ignored them.

His new favorite thing to do is fly around and land on my head. He took his first bath yesterday he we went bonkers (in a good way). tongue.gif
A very cute thing it just started to do is imitate my cockatails cherps and singing noises.

This is my new baby

what a little cutie pie. You are pretty brave, doing the handfeeding yourself. When he is ready for pellets, he will eat them. Guess he isn't ready yet. It is great that he is eating all of the fresh stuff already. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum. be careful with too much lettuce and also, I'm wondering when the applesauce or apple juice says sugar free, if it has some kind of artificial sweetener in it. If it does, I definitely wouldn't give it to him. Never give him apple seeds. they have Cyanide in them. Check the lists here on the forum as guidelines for what to feed and what NOT to feed. If you have to wonder if it's safe, just don't give it to him til you find out for sure.
Some more really great bird lovers/owners will be along shortly to help in any way they can. They are very knowledgable and always happy to help, so be sure to ask anything you need to know.

Thanks for the comments guys. It is natural apple juice/sauce bought at the local organic food store. I have a family member how is diabetic and can't eat suger. I always make sure not to add suger subsitute, as it has been proven to have a lot of dangerous side affects (especially splenda) in large quantities. I usually just give it a little dish with some fresh fruit and veggies cut up. Mix it up a bit. My father used to breed quakers years ago. He says its good to give it a different selection of fresh foods at a young age so they don't get picky with their food.

I love this forum and learnd a lot so far. I will definatly explore this side more.
