Full Version: Got A Green Monster...
Quaker Parrots Forum > Welcome! > Introductions

Hi,

I have made a couple of posts here regarding my cockatiel Scooby. Unfortunately, he has a disease that is very hard to treat/terminal and the breeder has agreed to take him back. I hate to think about it but it is really what is best for him, the breeder can give him more care than I can at this present time.

Also with the arrangement, I have been given a green quaker! S/he is only 5 weeks old but seeing as how I have handfed Scooby for over a month- (he regressed and almost died and spent 3 nights at the vet, amongst a multitude of other problems, but that's another story.) But anyway, I have the experience and I agreed to take the QP because I really felt a special bond with him and I am home during the day so I will have no problems with his schedule, which is currently 3 feedings a day.

He is in a glass tank right now with newspaper and paper towels on top. He is eating some pellets and some millet and he also ate a small piece of apple earlier today. (Along with his morning feeding.)

I had a few questions which I will post in other sections, just wanted to say hello to everyone and I look forward to becoming more active on this forum! I will post some pictures when I can recharge my camera batteries. Any name suggestions?? smile.gif

Thanks,

Megan

Hi Megan and Baby. Welcome to the QP family and to a fellow Carolinian! Glad to have you with us. Sorry to hear about Scooby (what a cute name!) One thing right of the bat I would like to suggest you need to totally sanitize and clean the cage Scooby was in if you are going to use it eventually for the baby. If you clean it good now it will be ready when your baby is big enough. I would be a little scared to put baby in or around it until you did.
As for names, I like to go to babynames.com and put in a definition or meaning that means something to me and see what kind of names pop up.

Once again, Welcome and glad to have you with us!

Thanks for the welcome! I have been following your story with Spirit, I don't see how you've done it! smile.gif

Yeah, I had put the cage in another room and I plan on using it but possibly just for a travel cage. I am probably going to get a new one for the quaker but we will see. Either way I will of course sanitize it extremely well.

Looking forward to reading more and learning all that I can. smile.gif

clemson918 - Shouldn't the little "Green Monster's" name be "Tiger" after the Clemson Tigers??? wink.gif
You can follow my thread at Baby QP Rescued in Hollywood, FL

As for me, I had to know the sex of my little "Green Chicken", now named "Dolce" (=sweet in Italian). Someone posted this great service: Avian Biotech. For $ 24.50 I was able to sex my baby with 5 - 8 breast feathers within a few days... it's a BOY! You might want to do the blood test and a Chlamydia Psittaci (Psittacosis) test as well since your bird is from a breeder. Call them at 800-514-9672.... great folks and service in Tallahassee, FL.

I also have this new cage (QP MANSION!!! ? laugh.gif ) coming this Thursday! Great price, good size and free shipping....
Pali Place

I will post my review later.....
Good Luck!

That's a great name! smile.gif I hadn't thought of that but I think that may be a winner... smile.gif I just graduated from Clemson in May- woohoo! smile.gif

The cage link isn't working (says post was moved or deleted)

I really like this cage

http://www.queencitypets.com/details.asp?p...422&cat=139

but I don't know if I can get it in a smaller bar spacing. It is 3/4" which I know for some is ok but I'm not sure how big Tiger (hehe!) will be so I'd rather be on the safe side and get 5/8ths. Andie's Mom suggested calling and seeing if they have that size with that bar spacing, which I will probably do.

Yes, I have been following your thread closely as well, you've done a great job. smile.gif

Maybe you can help me with his flying - his wings aren't clipped yet and I'm not sure how long he needs to have them to practice flying/build muscle, etc. (If I even clip them at all) But I thought your experience would help. smile.gif

Also, any advice you can give on stepping up would be great as well! (Since Tiger doesn't know how.)

I guess I should add that Tiger's been anything but a Monster... wrapping me around his finger one talon at a time I'm sure. wink.gif

Thanks for the welcome,

Megan
