I was eating some seedless watermelon yesterday when Kiwi flew over and sampled it, she really seemed to like it and since there were no seeds I did not think it would hurt her. Does anyone know if watermelon is ok to give? And what about raw cabbage? I have a bag of broccoli slaw mix and it has broccoli, carrots and cabbage, is this ok to feed raw? Thanks

Oh my gosh ... I thought I "knew my stuff" when it came to heatlthy/toxic foods and I just found several no-no's on the unhealthy list that I've been feeding Tucker occasionally.

Also, I had to laugh at the marajuana -- why would someone waste it on a bird?!! JUST KIDDING! Please know that I am really just kidding!

To make the bird high and laugh at him, the poor thing. We used to know a guy who gave his dog beer because it got the dog drunk and he thought that was funny. He was a creep.
Casey's Mom
Casey loves watermelon and I think there are some Quakers that go crazy over the watermelon seeds, Casey would prefer just to eat the fruit though. smile.gif But just be prepared for super watery poop after they eat the watermelon! wink.gif
xerxeys mama
I think that watermelon should be ok. i just discover that xerxey really loves strawberries ad he took a whole one of a berry instead of a little bit. sometimes he can be very greedy ehhe smile.gif

Tiki loves watermelon ( minus the seeds), and yes watch out for the watery poop and remember or you could panic yourself un-neccasrally. laugh.gif

About watermelon seeds.

The very high proportion of the unsaturated linoleic acid in edible watermelon seed could provide a nutritious new source of the fatty acid used in the reduction of cholesterol and the prevention of arteriosclerosis in humans. In addition, edible watermelon seeds contain significant amounts of the essential amino acids.

Actually it is great that you brought that up as there is some confusion about marajuana. I believe the reason they add that is because certain parts of the plant are good for the bird but any leafs and stems are poisonous now the seeds are a diffy story they are very nutricious and you can actually find them for birds some seed mixes actually use to contain them not sure now but ok you are saying how can I get them and wouldnt they be illegal well you can find them online and all legal issues are not a problem they do something with them not sure what the word is its too early in the morning but they basically make them unfertile so no illegal activity can develop.

Also for the one who mentioned cabbage I have heard so many conflicting things with cabbage its good they can have it its bad stay away from it. I usually find more bad then good on this subject so rather than be sorry I just avoid foods that have conflicting issues.

That's good to know about the seeds. I've never offered watermelon to Willie simply because I haven't had it here since he's been here. I'll have to try some with him.

I know someone has surely told him that strawberries will rip his beak off if they can get close enough - even tiny pieces!!!

Someone told Charlie the same thing. They must be sharing secrets.
