I was reading Julie's post about Harley and his needing to be on milk thistle and it clicked my brain into remembering Twin Beaks Aviary Herb Salad. Quite some time back I had to take Ekko in to get his beak trimmed..(it looked somewhat like Harleys, long and discolored, but only on one side) and I worried about his liver too. The bloodwork came back ok...it was so long ago but there was some test that was unable to be done...not enough blood or some mess up. Shoot...my memory is going!
Anyways....
Since then I have had a dish of Herb Salad out constantly for Ekko to nibble on at whim. His beak has never gotten to the point of needing to be trimmed since. Now...whether its the Herb Salad helping or if he is just better at playing with toys and chewing enough I can't positively say....but the way Ekko enjoys the Herb Salad I don't think anyone could go wrong with offering it to their bird hoping it would prevent liver issues and be a tasty treat they'd enjoy. Ekko screeches with happiness and makes a beeline for it when he see's me refill his saucer!

I also give herb salad, not so much to my big birds but my finches, I see them devour the herbs so periodically I do sprinkle some on the big birds foods.
We've had discussions here on QP.com before about it and many people had said that their birds didn't touch the stuff. In a way I find that a good thing. In that they (the birds) don't feel that they need the herbs, that they are feeling healthy. I observe my birds especially the finches will go through periods where they won't bother with the dishes of herb salad around their cages and then all at once they hit it and I can't keep the dishes full. So to me that tells me that they go through stages where they have stomach upset and things of that nature, just the same as we do and they medicate themselves as they need it.
I do know that Twin beaks will send out a sample of the salad, if you send for it, you will notice that there will be huge leaves and then some very hard stems etc. Don't pick those out, they will be eaten or played with as the bird needs it.
I like opening the bag or the container I put it in and just smell it myself.

Is there a website or anyplace where we can look at and order the "Herb Salad" or is there a recipe? I'd like to try it out too! I'm starting to try lots of new things for my little fid and she will try everything, but sometimes that's it. I just want her to enjoy everything she can and this sound intreging!
