I got Joey a Feather Tether Harness today. He stressed out a bit but settled down quickly. Thought I would post a few pictures of him in it. wub.gif

I would NOT EVER use those on Griffin. Alot of birds have escaped from those not to mention they are very heavy for a macaw let alone a small bird like a Quaker and uncomfortable with all that metal on them. Just my opinion but I personally consider them more dangerous and uncomfortable than they are worth. My suggestion is buy an aviator harness!

PLEASE read this. Its very informative.

Either way congrats on choosing to think 'outside' and no matter what you choose it is great that you are taking saftey measures to protect your baby outside!

Thank you for posting that article. I noticed Joey trying to get if off, but I just distracted him and he stopped. He did not appear to be uncomfortable in it. I have no intentions to have him out by himself so I can't see how he would get off the harness. I would rather have this than nothing at all. JMO

I returned that harness. The next Joey was so stressed out. He barely talked and did not want to come out of his room. I think I will try the aviator harness. I have a women in my area in Oshawa trying to get me one. If not I will order it on line. Is it easier to use, I have tried the flight suit to and e stressed to much for both. Or is it me ! Maybe I am stressed trying to get theses on him and he reads it?

I bought one of those harnesses. Anytime I put it on Pepper, she freezes up like a statue mellow.gif and refuses to move until I take it off. I bought a nice carrier instead.
She loves it. biggrin.gif She is safer in there anyways, when we are running our errands.

Can you post a picture of what you use as a carrier please. Maybe that would be better for Joey. I would hate to stress him enough to have him take a heart attack I would very forgive myself!

I think i'll get my baby a harness when it gets older because i would like to take it with me everywhere i go, i'm just scared that when its older it will ty to fly away and get hurt. I also go to the beach every now and then and i know my little Nugget would love it when its older of course.

I will try to get a picture soon. I got the carrier at petsolutions.com. It was cheap. All I added was a platform for her to stand on and mini-travel food containers. I think what helps is Pepper loves going in the car...talks the whole time. She's a little diva when it comes to coming out though. Usually she insists on coming out when she is ready, not when I want to take her out. biggrin.gif
Casey's Mom
Casey hates her Aviator and I really want to work on it but it just gets both of us so stressed! wacko.gif I'm planning on getting an Adventure Pack so she can go places with us when it gets warmer out, we have another carrier but it's just meant for a cat so she really can't see out that much... she already loves travelling in the car! biggrin.gif

Tariq, I'd order the Aviator Harness now and start introducing, they are more likely to accept it if they have been started at a very young age, and since Nugget is so young it should work well. smile.gif

I love the Aviator harness. As mentioned in another thread, I started out with the Feather Tether, but could not keep Tiki in it. I got it when he was still very young, at 10 weeks. I tried for a year to get him used to it, but no luck. After getting the Aviator, for our CAG, I resewed the Feather Tether, like the Aviator was made. But the most helpful thing was the DVD that came with it. Tiki still doesn't like the looks of the harness, but lets me put it on him. Each time he settles a little bit faster. I am going to order a new Aviator harness for Tiki, because I think I made his too small. It is not hard getting on, but difficult to get it off over his head. I will use that one for my cockatiel. Tiki does not hold a grudge, after he has had the harness on.Click to view attachmentI have posted this picture before, but it shows how much fun they can have. It is an excellent way for them to get exercise.

Rose---I was going to say exactly what Casey's Mom said about starting birdie out at a very young age...I've learned the experts say that it is easier on birdie to do it that way..
But whatever you decide on, I hope it will work for you....

I want to take Joey when we go camping. I want it to be pleasant for him as well as us. I need him to be safe but also stress free. We bought a camper trailer and want to camp this year. I hate leaving him home. Of course someone looks after him, but I want him with us. I might just get a carrier cage.

Sorry you did not work out. I hope you find something Joey likes having on. Thanks for the cute picture's of the little guy!

Cindylou, if you are interested in the aviator harness, you should order it from the company. I didn't even get charged for shipping to Canada, and they are really nice! I bought it a month ago and the DVD is REALLY informative on training them to accept the harness. We finally got it on all the way and it was too big for Pixie!

I emailed the company and they have sent me a new smaller size with a self-adressed stamped envelope for me to send the other back - EXCELLENT customer service!

Thanks I will check it out. My only concern is how much Joey stresses out.
