We are going to be driving about 2 hrs to pick up our new QP. What is the best way to pick him up? cool.gif

I would take a small travel cage. Something like a small cat carrier. Many pet stores also have small carrying cages, soft sided with mesh windows. Put some soft bedding in there, shredded newspapers or paper towels (no commercial 'bedding') just in case there are any sudden moves while you are traveling. More than likely he'll be ok without food or water for those two hours, but if you are worried about that, you might carry some small jars of food and water that you can give him at a stop on the way home.

Congrats on getting your little green baby! biggrin.gif You are gonna LOVE being a parront!

Also, if you can work it, pick him up early in the day, and be home by early/mid afternoon. This way he has some daylight hours left to adjust to his new home. And do be aware that he may be quite scared for the first day or week. Once you get him home, put him into the cage and just leave him be. Give him some time to get used to his new home. Remember, his entire life has just changed.

You'll want to make sure you have the same food as the breeder is currently feeding him. This way there will be no troubles with the bird not recognizing new food. It's also a good plan to have an appointment with a vet (preferably an avian vet, or at least one who deals with birds on a regular basis) scheduled to make sure he's healthy.
