I am a very new Quaker owner - 4 days. His name is Santana and was already trained to step up and step down. He is 8 monsths old. A new problem developed yesterday when he didn't want to leave his cage. I had been getting him out with a hand-help perch with no problem until now. Now he runs away from the perch. If I eventually get him on the perch and to his play gym next to the cage, he goes directly back to his cage. Is it possible to over-stimulate your Quaker? The other thing is that he has been at a pet store for 6 months and may be used to the cage. My concern was that he didn't act like this right away. I would appreciate any help!

Well I got my baby Milo the same way as you did. He was my first bird. We have learned AlOt together. LOL
This is a great place to gather information. I let Milo come out on his on when I first got him It took about (I know this sound crazy)
three months to get use to us. I would hang out by his cage and just talk to him. Play with toys and He would come out when he felt ok with it all. It's is a big change for them. Milo was in the cage with two other birds and I think he missed them. I used treats to get him to come out. I still to this day dont reach in his cage without his concent. (unless I have to) I can pretty much tell When he's ok with it. The cage is the main place he has that is his safe zone. He can always feel safe there. I read a book that said birds live in
their cages like we do our homes. It's all good when we invite someone in but if you come up on the pourch with out our concent lOOK out. The book also said that birds like the back of the cages to be like bedrooms. So thats where i put his happy hut. I went really slow with the toys also because Milo seemed not to like them very much. thus the playing with them in front of him for a few days before i put them in this cage. I could tell if it was ok or not because he will back up from toys he don't like and will reach out for the ones he does.
So Santana will come around in no at all. In the mean time read everything you can. Get ready for the love of your life.LOL
I hope this helped alittle. I'm sure someone else will be along to help.
OH can you post some pictures? tongue.gif

Just give him time to adjust to his new surroundings. Its takes some time to adjust. He will be fine.
