Quaker Parrots Forum > Welcome! > Introductions

Hello all. I live in the Charlotte, NC area, and actually do not own a Quaker (although I find them to be very cute!), but joined this group because I know of two quakers and two parakeets recently rescued. Each quaker was in a separate cage, while the parakeets were in one cage. I think they were left outside in their cages all day long at an apartment building, and no one claimed them by nightfall, so they were rescued and are being cared for by some extremely responsible, loving, and parrot-certified people. My concern is that someone might be looking for them. They appeared to be well cared for with lots of toys, and their cages were relatively clean. The quakers are sweet and loving.

I'm hoping through this forum, to find their original home and family as I would hate someone to think their birds were stolen.

If anyone knows of the above birds missing from a family, I can be contacted through this forum. I'll need a lot of detailed information before proper ownership of these birds would be accepted.

Thank you.

Oh my! It's super nice for you to be so concerned for the welfare of those birds and try to find the owners. I do hope and pray that no one would just get tired of having birds and sit them out as throw-aways. Poor babies! I pray there will be a good ending to this.
Thank you and welcome to the forum. wub.gif

Likewise here also ---but anyone with knowledge of caring for a bird certainly wouldn't just leave the birds outside with so many dangers lurking, not to mention the heat, etc..
Hmmmm...something doesn't sound right to me.....Wishing you all the best in this situation.....

Weird that someone would do that cage and all!

Welcome and bless you for caring about those little ones!!!

It sounds to me like someone found they couldn't keep them any longer for whatever reason and did what they thought was the best way to find them a new home. Even if they weren't thinking clearly, it doesn't sound like a heartless person who was just "getting rid of them". They left them near an apartment building where people would find them with their own clean cages and their toys.

I'd rather think that than to think they were stolen and just dropped there.

I hope I'm responding correctly as this forum's reply area is much different than the others I've been on. I too wish to think that they were not stolen, but so rests my mission. If they were stolen, I hope I can do some good in reuniting the family. I own birds myself and they are my "kids" - I can't imagine not having them in my life for even one day.

Nanrob40 - Although your initial thought of a lost or released QP pet in your Charlotte, N.C. neighborhood is a sound theory.
May I offer an alternative theory. Since QP's range up to Chicago and N.Y.C.!!! This might be a wild bird....? Here is their range:

Well, it appears the Quakers and parakeets I mentioned in my introductory email were definitely abandoned which I can not begin to fathom. These are the nicest birds! Anyway, a certified avian group is taking all 4 birds and will quarantine them, then if the birds are well, rehome them. Only the best homes will be given to the birds, so I know they are in good hands.

aww how sad

a member on another forum found 2 cages one with some finches and one with some parakeets IN THE DUMPSTER!!!!!

he said he was walking by and heard alot of chirping but didnt see any birds or places for nests or anything and hw went to throw somthing away and it made a noise on the cages and they all started squaking and flapping around and so he looked in and found the birds in their cages

abandoning them is one thing if not irresponsible and cruel but throwing them in the trash is about the most heartless thing you can do

at least if these people did leve them it was in a busy place

hope they find great homes
