Full Version: Need Advice For My New Baby That Is Coming Home Soon!

This is my first quaker -- I have a Sun Conure and want to ensure that my new
quaker does not centralize to one person? What is the best way to ensure
that my quaker becomes An ALL FAMILY BIRD? My conure only wishes to be
with me and my son. This time my husband is going to have to work
with the new baby to help out as he did not with the conure and now
he won't have anything to do with him.

Also -- I have been visiting my baby every day or so until the breeder
will let us bring him/her home so we are getting acquainted with it.
Is it normal for baby quakers to screech while shaking their head from side to side
or up and down ??? Every time it cackles its little head is out of control
shaking? I hear this is normal but is it really that normal and how long
before they outgrow this?

Any advice or tips that have proved successful would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forum!

Its so exciting to be bringing a new baby quaker home! When do you bring him/her home? I'm sure you'll find tons of great info here and be sure to post pics when you get a chance of your new baby quaker!

The movement you talk about is called "quaking" baby quakers do this for food when they are hungry as well as for attention.. My baby is 15/16 weeks old and still does it on occasion if he is really excited for my attention smile.gif

I agree..your husband will have to spend time with the new addition as well to ensure he bonds to him as well!

Thanks for your comments. I am expecting to bring him/her home in about 2-3 weeks as soon as the breeder
is comfortable that its ready to go.

Welcome to the group and yes its vital that everyione in the home interacts with the fid (feathered kid) to socialise him properly and even let frequent guests interact with him or he may not like visitors , mine don`t and have to be locked away when we have company which is ashame as I would love people to see how wonderful they are ..
You must be excited , I have a sun and my Q.P came to us when the sun was 3years old they are great buddies now and love each other as much as they love the humans in the flock US...

Since you have another sun conure and say that they are great buddies, at what point did you introduce them to each other? and what advice

do you have on how to handle that? THe breeder said they may get along fine and could play on the same play gym I just bought for my conure.

Do yours interact with each other or do you keep them separate??

huh.gif Humm...

I can answer one of you questions.
When Quakers are small / babies and are feeding they do a thing called "quaking" where they do the sort of behavior you just described. As they get older they mature and no longer do it but it's a interesting little baby dance they do lol.
