Full Version: What Is The Best Size Cage For A Quaker?
Quaker Parrots Forum > For Quaker Parrots Only > Quaker Parrot Talk
Sunny and Friend
I just posted a message about bringing my baby home soon
and was reading some other ones.

My sun conure's cage is 22 x 16 and he loves the size and seems to be perfect.

I bought a 18 x 18 x 30 cage with a playtop for my quaker? I am concerned
that may not be big enough. I hear different people make comments
that that is big enough. Do you think its too small?

Welcome to the forum!

I think that cage size is fine.. just be sure once all the toys, perches etc are in the cage that your lil qp will still have room to flap their wings about smile.gif

The general rule of thumb is to buy the biggest cage you can afford and the min. requirements for quakers are 18x18x18 smile.gif

Well that is what I am concerned about. I can afford a bigger cage -- but is it necessary?
Do you find that an 18 x 18 x ? (its 2x as tall it seems) is really big enough?

I am trying to decide if I should keep it or trade it in for a bigger one before I bring
home the new baby?

I would go bigger 18x18 is the bare minimum reccommended and unless your bird is out of the cage most of the time I would say go bigger...

Thanks for the input everyone.

I have enjoyed getting such positive and honest feedback
from everyone.

After reviewing and seeing that most 18x 18 are good for lovebirds,
I have decided that the 18x18 cage is not going to do for my
new baby quaker. So this is what I just bought. Check it out.

I am so proud! I am even considering buying another one
to replace my sun conures cage?

The other decision that helped me was that my sun conure
"Sunny" actually finaly got on the new 18x18 cage and when I saw
his size of him on it, I knew immediately that was not going to work.
I made a hasty decision with that other cage, but it was the color
that I liked the SAND color. So I found the cage above
and it comes in the exact same finish but much bigger with the playtop.

Has anyone ever bought a new cage for a bird they have had
and transitioned them into the new cage? I would like some feedback
on that as I want the new cage because of the seed guards "poop guard" in my opinion
but he loves his cage now and I do not want to have the change stress
him out. Any advice??
